Usually, the line is 'can still do a job' but in Fallon's case, he never could.

I guess McKenna is very much aware and that is why he is seemingly so happy to be here next season. I don't doubt their ambition and how well funded they are at all. I think it just comes down to the reality of whether we are able to convince ambitious targets to join. We are obviously in a far better position than we were last time we were in the Championship but I remember there being similar noise then.

Agreed, I saw comments about us “going under the radar” next season, which is ridiculous considering we are coming down from the premier league having spent £120m. There were lots of people saying we would only spend 40m or so last year and also lots of people saying we need to sell. I think most of the that is just because of a hangover from the Evans years We don’t need to sell, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we spend the most in the division next year. We will rightly be favourites and it would be a failure of a season if we are not at the top end of the division.

Just been listening to BM Podcast on 12:07 - Apr 28 with 5321 views | Len_Brennan | Having ambitious targets is one thing, convincing them to come to a Championship side, while Premier League sides, incl Leeds & Burnley, are presumably interested too, is another. I think holding on to Tuanzebe, O'Shea & Hutchinson for next season would be more important & impressive than any potential 'frightening' new signing. We really lacked in having PL experienced/proven quality in our side this season, and those 3 are at that level. Any exciting new signings are likely to be in the Jack Clarke & Jayden Philogene bracket; full of skill & bags of potential, but not necessarily ready to step up to playing against PL opposition just yet. I can't see Cajuste staying, but again keeping him would trump the signing of a young guy ripping it up in a lower league this season. We have to not only put together a squad to win promotion, but one that will be somewhat PL ready upon achieving that aim.

I think the fact there is a lot of noise about Birmingham and Wrexham is a good thing for us. I've already seen that Brum reckon they will have the same turnover as Soton, Leicester and ourselves next season - how is that even possible? And the media are continuing to jump on the Wrexham bandwagon.

I honestly didn’t see us spending as we did in the summer. Omari signing was a massive WOW for me. The only thing I’m worried about for next season is the expectation to be up there as opposed to the way it felt being up there after coming up from L1. And I guess if we spend £10/20/30m again this summer that again adds pressure.

Clearly there is substance, in the fact that he's been told our our list is scary, which means we will be gunning for it in the championship, obviously no one is going to divulge specific targets, why would you?

Purely on finances alone, I expect Southampton & Leicester to be our main promotion rivals. I'm hoping Sheff Utd go up through the playoffs, as they will still have parachute money. Can't see Wrexham being any better than mid table. Brum may make a push for play off places. Bristol City well financed and well managed by ex ITFC Liam Manning.

Isn't this the same for a lot of clubs now though Birmingham and Wrexham would both be considered very ambitious and well funded. Not sure on the ambitions of them up the road either but the owners certainly have deeper pockets than previously

The cynic in me would say that the local media are going to regurgitate whatever MA tells them to say, especially with ST renewals currently in the offing.

We have a lot more headway to spend as well though. We have parachute payments and are going to make at least £30m in transfer sales, possibly/probably more depending on other interest in players. That’s a £90m head start in terms of revenue over most teams in the league. We have amortisation payments for last years transfers, but that’s leaves us with plenty of wiggle room and owners with huge cash reserves.

If you’re spending those sort of sums though the expectation has to be up there! If we aren’t competing next year I can honestly see McKenna losing his job.

You’d like to think that if we spend big, and keep a number of the players we have, that we’ll be in the top 6 most of the season. If we sit 11/12th at Xmas and 15/20 points off the top 2, that would be a bloody disaster. (The champ is very tight so appreciate 4/5/6th often isn’t out of reach until the last few weeks of the season - but that won’t be our aim I wouldn’t think)

Just been listening to BM Podcast on 12:54 - Apr 28 with 4496 views | _clive_baker_ | We’re all so scarred from Evans that we don’t recognise or understand the level of ambition our owners have. They’re not here to mess about or for their 15 minutes in the premier league, the levels of investment and plans for the future are serious. I don’t think we need to sell this summer. Delap or clause related ones aside it’ll be a case of selling if we think it’s strategically the right thing to do with the context of PSR or other factors. We won’t be selling from a position of distress. We’re trying to build a premier league squad, I think we’ll go quite hard again this summer.

However, we clearly do NOT have a PL level squad currently so selling many of our players makes perfect sense - as long as we have secured better replacements. Staying the obvious I know, but sometimes it has to be said. Clearly we are lacking in "athleticism." We need players who are bigger, stronger, fitter, faster while still displaying a high level of ability and skill in possession. I could name many in our squad who do not meet this criteria, but I won't name them. We - and they - know who they are. And The Championship is no walk in the park. We did well last season and exceeded all expectations, but to get relegated and do it again needs a different set of skills. But I have every confidence in the team that run the club to get it right.
