And Joe says he's been told our list of targets this summer is 'scary'. No pressure then, Mark.

My point about Southampton is that they are dysfunctional as a club (both on and off the field). With the potential sale of Dibling for £100M, they may have the greatest transfer flexibility in the division, but if they don't sort their internal Sh1t out, they will likely struggle next season.

Dibling won't even go for half of that figure.

We don't *need* to sell this summer or in January either.

As another poster has said, athleticism is the buzzword for this summer.

I very much hope that is the case. If the reports are to be believed, we will *need* to sell Delap. I just hope the other players that might attract interest from elsewhere don't have similar clauses in their deals, and/or huge sell on percentages.

As to the latter, amen.

United Airlines are the kit sponsor I think, on our flights to/from Mexico the entertainment system had ‘welcome to Wrexham’ as the opening screens as the came on pre flight. Then all 3 series.

Kinda crazy the exposure they get. And they’re off to Australia for pre-season.

Agreed. I think even Saints fans are getting a bit despondent about him over the last few months. 2 goals and 1 assist is a pretty poor return from a forward player

Seemingly he just had a good spell but that definitely hasn't carried on throughout the season. Sounds like he had his head turned in Jan and has been pretty poor ever since

I doubt he'll go for that fanciful figure, but even half that will match the parachute payment - and both Manchesters are linked with a summer chase, and Spurs have been linked at £45M, having reportedly had a £35M bid rejected in Jan.

We'll see what happens, but there are likely to be a few big names chasing the signing, and a bidding war isn't out of the question.

The cynic in me would say that the local media are going to regurgitate whatever MA tells them to say, especially with ST renewals currently in the offing.

That's right don't believe them! Can I have your season tickets please?

The line I found equally encouraging was the one about scouting Bayern v Mainz - that would start to answer the "no foreign scouting network" criticism that has been a frequently used stick with which to beat the club...

Ooh... that's what I think is the missing piece in our jigsaw. I'm rather excited to hear that.

I think we kind of drained the well with regard to who we could recruit from domestic leagues this season - did as well as we could - so this overseas recruitment step is absolutely necessary.

I hear Bayern have a handy centre forward with some Premier League experience. English too but the wrong side of 30 so might not be quite our sort of target.

If we’re using goalkeeper.com again to find a new keeper, that could be scary.

Indeed, we should've used goalkeeper.net!

Leicester also only have 3 players out of contract, 2 of them are squad players and Vardy, who's leaving. That leaves them with an incredibly expensive squad, Harry Winks on £90k a week is someone they'll be desperate to shift, they can't afford to sack RVN and they are facing a 10 point hit.

I'd say Leicester are in far worse state than Saints.

Oh absolutely. I don't know any Leicester fan that thinks they'll be in a fit state to bounce back next season.

Personally, I think it'll be us, Birmingham and Sheffield United (if they lose in playoffs) competing for the top 2. Southampton's squad needs genuine surgery so they'll probably be top six rather than top 2, plus your Sunderlands, Boros and Coventrys.

I think I want Luton relegated too as that takes another parachute team out of the equation. On paper, it feels a very weak league next year. There won't be many (if any) clubs/squads better equipped than us, that's for certain.

Lennard Maloney at Mainz would fit the bill for a Morsy replacement. Strong in the tackle and a workhorse. English speaking too. Can also play centre back.

Been around the Dortmund setup so will have trained at a high level.

Signed for Mainz in Jan, but has only played three games so would cost.

It really is. And it has secondary impact
For example, I'm director of an arts charity and we've struggled to get any media coverage in the UK.

We have a huge gallery in Wrexham, no UK arts media have mentioned it but Disney TV went to it and recorded there a few weeks ago to potentially include on the programme...

There’s an interesting long piece on Wrexham on the BBC website. Few things stood out; very similar language used by their owners/staff as we’ve heard over the last few years: “buying players for a league above… on an amazing journey… only just beginning…”. As for their ground, they’re actually reducing capacity due to knocking down their temporary stand building a new kop. Presumably all their sponsorship deals mean they can absorb the hit on reduced ticket sales. Finally, the article mentioned Wrexham games in the U.S. get record viewing figures. Going to need to see the data behind that as not convinced.

It's all well and good trying to mimic us and project that image out to a doting press. Then you realise that their manager is Phil Parkinson and they've been relying on a 35 year old Jay Rodriguez.

Where’s it reported we have to sell Delap?

It doesn’t stack up for me that we do although of course I could be wrong. I’m of the opinion that we’ll only really struggle to be compliant with FFP should we not be promoted after 2 years.

I think the intimation is that we are going to be spending big and have to make FFP room to do so?

If a bid of £30million is received then it is up to Delap. Ipswich have no say in the matter.

Yep, we'll be trying to sign capable Prem players for championship football now, that's the level we'll need, on lower Prem wages it must be doable..

Assuming the story is correct but that wasn’t really what I was contesting - more that we aren’t under FFP pressure to sell was the point I was making.

Maybe but I don’t think it’s the case. If we have a way we can keep Delap then we surely would do that. Probably academic as almost certainly we don’t have a way to keep Delap!

It’s more just inevitable he goes. Town will spend decent money regardless, but the £30m all comes into the calculations.

If Delap didn't go for whatever reason, I think Hirst would as he won't want to play 2nd fiddle again. I think we are certainly going to have to get one or 2 strikers in, but will they really want to be impact players from the bench if the are the sort of quality level we are aspiring to?

I am kind of interested to see just how well Sammie could do playing off Hirst.

Agreed, I saw comments about us “going under the radar” next season, which is ridiculous considering we are coming down from the premier league having spent £120m.

There were lots of people saying we would only spend 40m or so last year and also lots of people saying we need to sell. I think most of the that is just because of a hangover from the Evans years

We don’t need to sell, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we spend the most in the division next year. We will rightly be favourites and it would be a failure of a season if we are not at the top end of the division.

We're still under the radar as far as BBC Sport are concerned. There's a piece today about Wrexham playing in the Championship next season, and it mentions that they will be up against the likes of Leicester City, Southampton and ........... West Bromwich Albion!

I think that's a completely reasonable position for BBC to take. We might think we're a big club and arguably we've been a sleeping giant - but the stats don't back that up.

Let's say the journo who wrote that article on BBC Sport is 40 years old (and chances are they are younger than that) - then in their adult life (last 22 years) Town have been in the Premier League for one season. During that same period, the following Championship teams (that Wrexham will be joining next year) will have been in the Premier League as follows:
- West Brom: 13 seasons
- Sunderland: 12 seasons
- Middlesboro: 8 seasons
- Blackburn/Watford/Norwich: 7 seasons

To that journo we are literally no different to Luton last year, or Huddersfield a couple of years ago - a team that won some stuff before the journo was born but who have never been a top division side since they became an adult.

Hell - I've just turned 50 and all of those teams listed above have had more seasons in the top flight since I turned 30 than we have since I turned 10 years old.

To most people under 40 we are probably placed lower in the pecking order than those above, plus Derby, Stoke, Portsmouth, Hull, Bolton, Birmingham and Charlton.

It's on us to change that perception but it will take another 3-4 seasons in the Premier League for that to happen.

Lennard Maloney is one we are potentially looking at. CM who has represented Germany at youth level and full USA caps x 2. At Mainz currently not getting in. Has a good pedigree. Think we sent scouts at weekend but he was unused sub.
