I don’t think he fits into our 11 style wise to be honest, squad player even next year. Not a true 6, doesn’t really do the role as a 10 (and would be miles behind the pecking order anyway) and probably best deployed as an 8 or box to box more free role.

He was absolutely fine, carried the ball well, did all his work effectively which considering hes been flung during a squad numbers crisis must make him feel under extreme pressure..... just wish we' find ways to let himuse that exocet of a shot he has!.... though hes not taking any more penalties if i was asked ! |  | | |

He completely fails to smell the danger for the McNeil goal I am pretty sure it's him standing off as he is given space
But there was a nice ball down the wing, it's hard to really gauge how good a player he really is with all the fleeting starts
Peterborough got a lot more out of him than us, be it at a lower level. There's a lot more he can give, we know he has a strike on him [Post edited 4 May 1:36]

Yep, as soon as Morsy’s player drags him into the box, McNeill goes straight into the space where Morsy had been and Taylor is miles off him so can’t get there.

I think Joe is referring to old bastards like me who fail to fully understand why a players position is described by a number.
Us old gits grew up with the likes of both Santos and Ipswich Pele playing with a number 10 and Netherlands playing Total Football. [Post edited 4 May 7:47]

'doing a job' isn't going to get him a regular starting space though. I think Taylor will continue to do a job from the bench and as a squad player for us next season.
He's just not able to dominate in a midfield or be consistently in the game. He has good pace and a great strike on him but not the all round game we need to be winning a championship league. | |

When he starts he is always 'quiet' willing runner but he's never going to boss a midfield, another expensive Peterborough mistake signing. If it weren't for his occasional thunderbolt we wouldn't even be talking about him. Nothing against him but we need better even in the championship. | | | |

I think there is ZERO chance any of those three will be here next season and Taylor isn’t the right standard/doesn’t fit into our system, with Morsy another year older, I’d say the two CDM roles are key to our recruitment this summer.

I don’t think Taylor has ever really grasped his chances when they’ve come along and owned that position. I wouldn’t be upset if we moved him on. We need more bullishness and pace and creativity in that midfield, with players that have the right attitude and fit our ethos of working together and never throwing the towel in. I’m not saying Taylor doesn’t have those qualities, of course I’m not. But he just doesn’t quite own it for me. |  |
