So was Jordan Henderson, and I'm sure a few more ex players. It doesn't mean anything, other than them wanting to share the experience of a club they played for, and probably had a special place in their heart, being involved in what was the biggest day for the club in the best part of a decade. I'm sure Jack still has plenty of friends within the club that he was there to support and share in their joy too.

Is he injured and not in our squad?
Would have thought he'd be told not to travel in advance of our game today. Unless there's different rules for desd-rubber games.

He went to London, not Liberia.

Mackem pal of mine bumped into Jack yesterday pre-game. Was there with his missus. Both of whom said to my mate that he'd "do anything" to return...

I’m sure he would, but would they want him? I can see them doing a lot of their business in France given the manager, and no doubt they will get a lot better value for money.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Oh I doubt they'll want him after his performances this season. But it's more the brazen, mercenary nature of his comments that disappointed me the most. We gave him his PL shot and there's no desire to right the wrongs of this year.

I mean, he did say to the local press a few weeks back that ā€˜there is nowhere I’d rather be next season than here’. Which I hope is the case.

If they love him as much as they seem to, they'll stump up the cash required to take him from our "superficially tricksy but lightweight ineffectual and a massive waste of money winger" bin.

That's the only good thing about Sunderland going up, as far as I can see.

If only Hull had gone up too, and they could have taken Greaves and given us the cash to keep Burgess. Who's /better/.

This would seem a rather stupid thing to say openly to a person(s) he’s never met before.

Not calling your friend a liar but maybe misinterpreted after a few sherbets?

I hope he’s here next year, he seems to be a bit of cheat code at championship level.

Tho he might just have been saying nice things to Sunderland fans at a play-off match.

Not sure it's fair to expect a young lad in his early twenties to be thinking through the in-depth implications of everything he says. Or reading that much into it.

It was more an issue he got roaring drunk, had a fight with SheffU hoolies and spent the night in the cells.

I’m sure any Sunderland fan would be of the opinion that ā€œthat he’d do anything to returnā€.

Did Jack actually say that though? Even as a platitude.

Someone posted in the comments under the FB post that he said the same thing to them after the game as well. Must have been your Mackem friend or did Jack say that to lots of them ....

Hmmm

Clarke is a Yorkshireman so I don't get his huge attachment to Sunderland, apart from the fact that he had 2 very good season there.
Yo-yo clubs passing this type of player around is becoming more common. I'd be happy to keep him as I think he improved as the season went on & I think there's a very good Championship player in there. He's probably better off ripping up the Championship with Town next season than struggling at Sunderland.
