Kelleher to Brentford for 12 million plus add ons. How much did we pay for Muric? He was thought to be out of our price range last season.

Only one year left on his contract now so that seems about right.

Still feels like Brentford have done well there though.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

£18M with addons.

Would still have taken him at that if we were still in the PL

hindsight is great, but that is the deal we needed to happen.

This isn’t me being argumentative but he’s 26 and has only played 26 PL matches in his entire career. At Liverpool he is used to world class defenders in front of him - I know that Brentford are now an established PL side but he won’t be afforded the same protected there.

Just think that by last season, when Liverpool were looking at £20M, it would have been a lot of money on a still relatively inexperienced keeper.

£10m + £5m (many add on you'd imagine not met)

He wasn't out our price range, because we spent that level of money elsewhere - we just chose to spend on different areas/players.

Very good keeper though - really good deal from Brentford.

Whose to say wages wouldn't have been out of our range? Also he may not be open to taking the reduction in wage on relegation as per MA's comments about why we didn't get more experience in.

To add to the other comments in the thread, there is of course the possibility that he wouldn't have wanted to come to a newly promoted club who'd just jumped up from League 1...

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

When Keĺleher started playing he was a centre forward. Ideal player for playing out from the back. Unfortunately we didn't stay up and this opportunity has passed us by.

Fantastic news for his first amateur club in Cork.

Come on, surely people know this would never have happened? As much as we would have liked it to. As others have said maybe if we'd stayed up. He played 10 times for the champions last season and was linked with bigger clubs than us, so if he had been open to a move it wouldn't have been us.

This whole cut and paste that equals that he equals him is so simplistic it's laughable. Wages, contract lengths, rival clubs involved, availability at specific times, outlook for club, there are hundreds of factors, but no, £8 million is roughly like £12 million so they coulda woulda shoulda been signed.
Not all aimed at you btw.

It's amazing really how simple people think it is, and just base it on transfer fee alone. Loads of other figures I'm sure are not included in that.

Also, being in the last year of your contract does as well as you're team buying another goalkeeper for apparently £29m to be backup to Allisson, changing things.

This move (maybe not specifically to Brentford) has been planned, for at least a year as they knew this new GK was coming in.

Also, I doubt he would have come to us knowing full well we had a good chance of going down.

so would i, but he wouldn't have come to us (or anyone else out of the 17) even if we could stretched to the wages!

Never underestimate a sweet-talking Mckenna. As a club there was nothing wrong with aiming high. Would have been a coup if it had been pulled off, certainly one of our weak areas at the club at Prem level that needed attention.

Well I'd imagine he was desperate to leave Arsenal, and £120k a week might have done the job.

We were never going to pay those wages.

Some years ago a Town academy scout felt Irish keepers were at an advantage as they were better with their feet than most from having played Gaelic football.

There is an element of truth in this regarding players with a Gaelic football background. American football teams think the same ( ironically because the can place kick further and more accurately ).

Shane Supple was a possible case in point. We will never know how he might have progressed as a keeper as he left to pursue a Gaelic football keeper career. Disillusioned with football under Keane, I think?
