Judges: binned. People who disagree: targeted. One President, one message, one right and wrong. Trump is always right. If he said everyone is happy and the economy is booming, that’s the truth. California is staunchly Democrat. With a population of near 40 million it’s one of the richest states in the Union. Of course it’s a target. The Governor - will he be imprisoned, have an accident or accidentally get a heart attack? If he doesn’t bend the knee one of those things will happen in my view.
Trouble is, Trump doesn’t forgive. He bears grudges permanently. His immediate response to those who do not toe the line, because Trump is always right, is abuse, bullying, threats and intimidation ably supported by his weak, witless henchmen. It’s going to get a lot worse there. I’ll say it one more time - Trump could break up the US. It’s that or it falls into permanent authoritarianism once subjugated.

Lived there for a few years and loads of Republicans. Most counties as you go ever slightly west are also red, check a map from 2020 to 2024.
It’s not in any danger of becoming a swing state anytime soon though due to population, similar to NY and Illinois, if you have one of the biggest cities in the county, that will always dictate the vote, so you are correct in that sense.

That certainly didn't look great.
Should be noted the LAPD are under local jurisdiction not federal, it's quite an important distinction when you consider what the protests are about and the communities involved. There has been some peaceful protests but a fair bit of violence in certain areas as well with cars set a light and rocks hurled at patrol cars from above, essentially looks like attempted murder. Not good all round and concerning if it continues to escalate.

The push for control of states; their independence and right to choose was the primary reason for the Civil War in the 19c (it had zilch to do with slavery really). Trump is exercising ‘new dictators playbook’ almost to the letter. Bringing California to heel will send a message to others as he centralises power. As for Newsome having an accident or winding up in jail, why not? You can’t tell me it’s not being considered.
I never thought I’d see the day when an American president would publicly humiliate a foreign leader with hectoring and lies, see a foreign journalist deliberately shot at with a rubber bullet or people deported to hell holes like El Salvador without trial. I thought the days of trying to intimidate and threaten a neighbouring country ended in 1815.
I never thought in my lifetime an American president would turn on former allies as this one has and ally himself with dictatorships. He clearly admires them. I never thought I’d see a president attack universities, judges, media; seek power in the way this one has all dressed in rhetoric and lies. Hegseth is the classic 'useful idiot' who as you say will just do whatever Trump tells him to. It's the ones behind the scenes (Miller etc) who are the real string pullers/Trump whisperers. While I appreciate anyone man enough to say sorry (even if it was in a reply to someone else), I will absolutely always push back on that kind of nonsense. I’ve been back since the spring and in terms of threads I’ve started, they have quite literally exclusively been about ITFC, with just one about a band and one about London. So I don’t appreciate lies saying my return has noticeably coincided with me shilling for anyone politically. Unless I misunderstood, it was also rather an interesting suggestion for me to leave the forum if I didn’t get with the consensus. There’s a word for that I think.
I will sometimes chime in when posts are about the States because I’ve spent most of my adult life here and I don’t always think the overall perspective from afar quite lines up with the reality. Years ago for example, there was a huge thread about tips, where I was trying to explain that a lot of my friends loved working in service industry in college because of the insane money they made at the weekends but no that wasn’t allowed either!
I’m not exactly a voice of the left leaning majority on here but I actually try and form my opinions from living here, taking to my friends and family here, as well as taking in media from various sides of the aisle. The Daily podcast from the NYT as an example, even though it’s rather to the left, I think it offers some excellently sourced reporting. Jonathan Swan is a very credible journalist and his insights from inside the WH are fascinating.
When it comes to Trump I haven’t gone all Sean Hanity on the current polices, so I’m not sure what the level is for two siding I’m being accused of. If I was posting Daily Wire articles and going full MAGA I’d expect these kinds of posts aimed at me. As I mentioned on another thread months ago, there’s no Washington lifers having a quiet word in his ear this time and that can lead to some impulsive and chaotic circumstances, which is not good for the country.
I hate how divided we have become under both parties but I still love America and the life I’ve built here.

Quite. Both-siding is a massive issue, but it could be innocuous and in good faith, or malicious (edit - this is a general reply about both-siding that jogged my memory about what I’ve said below, and not aimed at any posters here to avoid my confusion).
The founder of Bellingcat gave the opening key note talk at the recent Uni of Cambridge Disinformation Summit where he talked about the fracturing of our shared reality (that’s ultimately what both-siding is all about when used as a tool to deflect blame).
It’s a bit long at just over an hour, but if anyone’s got an hour to while away it’s interesting in parts. He touches on Trump, various conspiracies, social media influencers, media’s role, Ukraine & Russia, etc. He talks about the causes for why we are where we are, how various actors interact to perpetuate the spread of bad information and some things Bellingcat are doing to push back. I’m only up to 50 minutes but found it a reasonable watch. Possibly a bit obvious and simplistic in places, but he does give that overarching view that I think we often miss.
I saw another clip of a woman trying to get down a street to her apartment, and when she wouldn't turn back one of the police/guard just shot her in the chest with a rubber bullet. The scary thing is this is obviously the instruction, the government want these spark points to occur, moments that will provoke further protest, excusing further crack downs and violence because they want division and sides to form.
It will get really nasty I fear, because you have a situation where protestors against the government will not only be fuelled by a feeling of it being the right, just thing to do, but they will literally be on the right side of the law as well; court rulings saying that people cannot be deported with out due process are being ignored or tied up in further legal wrangling while the ICE raids (government sanctioned kidnapping) and deportations flights continue.

I saw another clip of a woman trying to get down a street to her apartment, and when she wouldn't turn back one of the police/guard just shot her in the chest with a rubber bullet. The scary thing is this is obviously the instruction, the government want these spark points to occur, moments that will provoke further protest, excusing further crack downs and violence because they want division and sides to form.
It will get really nasty I fear, because you have a situation where protestors against the government will not only be fuelled by a feeling of it being the right, just thing to do, but they will literally be on the right side of the law as well; court rulings saying that people cannot be deported with out due process are being ignored or tied up in further legal wrangling while the ICE raids (government sanctioned kidnapping) and deportations flights continue.

The only surprise to me, with it being the good ole US of A, is that is wasn't, or didnt appear to be, 'lethal rounds', i.e. it must've been a rubber bullet or something like that. Usually it's half a dozen in the chest and ask questions later isn't it?
