He is not going to Brentford 06:50 - Jun 13 with 4510 viewsmuccletonjoe

The part of this speculation which does cause concern is why he doesn't come out and say so.

Frank to Spurs was only confirmed yesterday.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Because he's already said where he sees his future next season:

McKenna: My Full Focus is on Town 24th Apr 2025 16:18
Town boss Kieran McKenna has reaffirmed his intention to remain with the Blues despite relegation from the Premier League appearing certain to be confirmed this weekend at Newcastle. 19

He even said he's not going to comment on it every week. Despite how the season panned out he is going to be linked with every mid-lower table opportunity - we can't reasonably expect him to comment on every link in the media or every time he's installed as bookie's favourite. No other manager/coach in sport does this and he would make himself a laughing stock if he formally denied every rumour.

The other thing to remember is he is under a very large contract, and we would need to give him permission to speak to another club (like we did with Delap) - so how about we just save our hand wringing for the day if/when it's announced by Ashton that we've given McKenna permission to speak to another club.

Maybe because it would have been unprofessional to talk about a role which didn't formally exist until yesterday evening, and he has already stated he sees his future with Ipswich at the end of last season.

Not sure what people are expecting him to do?

He doesn't need to

Picked this up from the Independent:

"Brentford had considered a move for Kieran McKenna after Ipswich’s relegation from the Premier League but they believe the 39-year-old has bigger aspirations within the Premier League."

the man's allowed a holiday! he can't hold a press conference for every job he's linked with.

just accept he's here now; one day he'll leave for a bigger job (like bobby & alf) or because he's failed or been deemed to have failed (like everyone else).

enjoy him while he's here and don't stress, life will go on, itfc will go on!

I can feel the pile-on coming, but this is really just meant to voice my curiosity on this situation. No criticism intended to any parties involved before the usual crowd gallop in on their white steeds.

I've been really intrigued by people's interpretation of McKenna's comments on this. I read what he said at the time and didn't see anything that committed him to the club next season. It was all very vague and didn't really say anything much of substance.

It was the fact that the local press jumped on it big to say 'you should read this as he is definitely staying' that got people thinking that's what he'd said. It's not clear-cut in what he has actually said, yet the story is written as if it is.

I obviously am suspicious of this as it's been proven that the local press have taken editorial lines from the club before. So you could easily see a scenario where the club have asked them to make more of a vague quote than is true in order to suit a financial agenda. Remember that 'we are very well protected', 'Delap might stay you know' and this story all came out around season ticket renewals...

He definitely didn't say 'If any club asks me to be their manager I will say no' but then I fully appreciate that he can't in today's media world. Noone wants to give a quote that they can be hanged with later. To give a wrestling example, CM Punk has gotten into trouble recently by previously coming out strong against taking 'saudi blood money', only to now be working a match there.

Ultimately, I hope it turns out that he stays; that he is currently having a well earned holiday with his family and comes back refreshed and ready to find new players and attack the championship again. But, if he does go, I can easily see a 'well, I didn't actually say I was staying now did I?'

And also good luck to him if he does go. Its a job. I've moved jobs for better pay and prospects, KMc has exactly the same right to that as I do. You only get to do this once...

Sets a bit of a precedent if he's expected to come out and deny interest in every club he's linked with. It's a ludicrous expectation, McKenna can't control the media speculation, he should spend his time getting on with his job.

Unless there becomes a deafening chorus of 'manager A is going club B' no one is going to make a statement distancing themselves from a job. For starters it seems a bit presumptious if that club has had no intention of approaching manager A, which as far as I'm aware at the moment is the case with Kieran and Brentford.

I really don't think it's worth worrying about.

Ultimately coaches / managers leave all the time. He owes ITFC nothing, both have benefitted from the appointment.

I believe Brentford will have higher aspirations but if they were to offer him the job, he'd take it.

Why on earth would he come out and start pouring forth about something that simply isn't happening?

Talented though he is, I expect Brentford have better options than K Mck. Why would a relatively well established PL Club with a very wealthy owner pick a man that has just been relegated.

Not sure they do with Keith Andrews as favourite.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Such an approach didn’t do Bayern any harm. They won the league by 13 points and only lost one or two games each season. As much as the manger has a key role to play, they can only work with the players their club can afford.

Why would he comment on speculative rumours on social media and click-bait journals. I don't see other managers or players doing it whenever they are subject to speculation. Yet to expect Kieran to.
