I liked the old schoolness of his player profile. Not comparable in terms of ability but the Bam Bam esque striker/defender role appeals. Well overdue a comeback in modern football imo

Yes, in a grim triple signing with Stephen Ward and David Cornell.

The most Marcus Evans signing of all time….

Didn’t have enough money to sign a striker AND a centre back, so instead signed a player who could play both positions

Ian Marshall is the other that immediately springs to mind.

There is a good degree of logic to it as well, perhaps less so with false 9's and inverted frog footed support spears and the like that we have now, but for an old school get it into the mixer in the last 10 to grab a point it makes a lot of sense.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

That was eight months before Gamechanger bought the club. The same season that saw the Josh Harrop loan.

This is how far we've come in five years!

To think we finished 11th in League One the season before and the five permanent signings to try to revive our fortunes were these three, Ross Crane and Albert White, the latter two who never made an appearance. All free transfers. We had no chance of promotion, looking back.

In fairness, we'd already spent most of the budget on Lambert's five year contract earlier that year...

No, we didn't. We signed him purely as a striker to give us more of a physical presence in League 1.

He wsan't very good but that's because the budget was about 5p.

On paper, Ward appeared to be a good signing. Unfortunately, football is played on grass, or plastic in some cases.

that's not even 5 years ago. jeez we've come a long way.

'We signed him purely as a striker to give us more of a physical presence in League 1'

Only for him to come up and say he preferred playing centre back as there was less pressure playing that position.

Unbelievable.

Stephen Ward was really good for about 5 games until his legs stopped working because he was about 110 years old.

He was also the most Mick McCarthy signing ever that wasn't signed by Mick McCarthy.
