Whereas I think he'd be like a some of the players we signed years ago who used to be good, but are just that bit too old to still be effective (or their legs have suddenly gone).

Unless you are a full time football manager don’t give up the day job, and if you are . . .

Ahhh, the great Lee Chapman. Brought in to ‘do a job’. They virtually had to wheel the old boy out on a porter’s trolley and dump him in the middle of the pitch. And there he stayed. Inert. Ellington: washed up and as fat as a barrel despite being only about 30. Here to revive his career for his favourite manager Paul Jewell. Oh dear those days were long gone. No wonder the pitch looked a mess with that amount of tonnage waddling about on it. Got to give the bloke his dues though. Between June 2011 and Oct 2013 he squeezed a living out of three clubs including us packing in 34 appearances and zero goals. Ahh, the ‘Duke’. Old players can work if they are of the right attitude and in the right position. Bullard was a good player. Shone in his loan spell, then took the club to the cleaners and McDonalds for every Big Mac it could slap on the griddle. On the other hand, Mowbray and Wark: worth their weight in gold. Legs were shot but at Centre Half that could be compensated for. They were brilliant for us. Magilton was too, but these were very special players. Vardy is 38. At PR he looked like he was wearing lead boots. Add the baggage that comes with him and the pension top up he’d no doubt demand and it is a definite no from me. There’s something about him that’s always annoyed me too, even if he has had a great career.

We bought a player who refused to play for his club (Szmodics) so although it's still a no from me, I wouldn't cite that as a reason.

If the personal milestone was to score thirty goals in a season then he could head for the beach at the end of February, but I doubt that would be Vardy's target...
