If it is Millwall Away on Boxing Day... 11:00 - Jun 26 with 2422 viewsJrm_72

Would you take your kids aged 10 and 6? I've never been to any Den, but I am of course aware of their reputation. Just wondering if its still as hostile these days as games become more family orientated?

Probably the safest away game for you to take them.

It wouldn't be a problem, Millwall seem to be a good family friendly club these days, although they do love an F or C bomb in general conversation.

Proper ground, good fans, do it.

Don't believe the media hype.

It is fine.
One of the friendliest and easiest away days in the country.

They have coward's tunnel at South Bermondsey station which a lot of away fans walk down and straight to the away end.

Used to live two minutes from the ground. You’ll be fine.

I’d recommend catching the tube to Surrey Quays and walking to the ground from there, if the kids are OK with a 15 min walk. You can catch the overland train from London Bridge but it’s always unpredictable and packed - kids might hear some fruity language too.

But it’s London, there’s good and bad to be found everywhere.

Isn’t there no trains on Boxing Day?

Or do the London suburban trains still run?

They haven't put up information yet, but this what National Rail Enquires said about last Boxing Day.

"On Boxing Day most train operators will have no service - however, there will be a very limited service operated by a small number of train operators."

Given this, I can't see me being able to catch a train from west Kent to South Bermondsey via London Bridge.

Stay away, dozens killed last year by the Millwall hooligans.

Underground and buses work, but almost no National Rail.

Making this an absolute pain to get to for most.

Parking near Millwall isn't easy, and traffic is ruddy horrible due to people going shopping. It's got Galloways written all over it.

Millwall's definitely not as bad as everyone makes out. And living in the area, I know a few people who (while they won't admit it) definitely are/were some of 'those' types of Millwall fans.

I wouldn't want to meet them in a dark alley, but they wouldn't abuse/swear/fight in front of kids. They have that weird Kray Twin faux-gentleman thing about them that South Londoners seem to love.

I'd take my kids there, if I wasn't sure they'd be bored and want to leave 10 minutes in.

The worst thing at Milwall away is the Town fans. The once a year hooligans who rent a stone island jacket for the day and think they are in some sort of firm. Used to happen at most London away games. Home fans are never any bother, and quite amusing to watch.

The New Den is fine. Been a few times and worked in the area many years ago. It’s changed over the years and their supporters are a lot more genuine than the plastics following the ‘big’ clubs. Better bunch than their dearest friends West Ham too.

The original Den was a bit lively, but we are talking a long time ago now and even back then it was ok - bar the notorious 1978 FA Cup 6th Round game.

Not many who went that day will forget it.

Most Millwall fans are ok - it's the day trippers who turn up for certain games that can be a problem

Tubes run.

Doesn’t help for South Bermondsey.

Nearest tube is Surrey Quays or Bermondsey.

100%. I used to live round the corner and have a great affiliation for them and go back and watch them occasionally. Great set of fans and a real family club. Last season I went to watch them against the scum and sat right next tothe away lot. The language can be a bit ripe at times which I am absolutely fine with but never any sign of aggro or intimidation. The lot I was with knew I was Ipswich which went down well and they just used that to wind up the scum a bit more. The only issue that day was a drunk, fat scummer invading the pitch, then falling over and looking a right tit trying to give it large to the Millwall fans

True, but will be only a Sunday service on the tube (if the drivers can be bothered to get out of bed) and no British Rail on Boxing Day.
Very annoying that our Boxing Day fixture is an otherwise accessible London game.
