Matusiwa
Taylor
Humphreys

So, 1 more definitely needed. 2 more probably.
Can't see us risking Cam as the 4th, would be nice to have him around, but can we use up 5 slots on CM?

2 more definitely

Taylor has done nothing to show he is capable of being a top championship midfielder. Humphreys hasn't had that chance yet but id suspect is not quite ready.

2 more midfielders at the least.

Just a thought but seeing our abundant offensive potential we might switch it up for the Championship and go 4-1-4-1 with two 10s in front of Matusiwa.

I feel very bullish on Cam. Think he'll be our breakout star of the season. Easy to underestimate just how impressive his year at Wycombe was.

Think we'll sign one more big money CM starter and potentially try to secure an experienced head. Wonder if we would have kept Luongo in hindsight.

That’s an awful shout, this isn’t Football Manager and we would get seriously overrun.

KmC has always carried 5 so I'd be amazed if he wasn't looking at definitely 2 probably 3.

in 22/23 we had 5/6 - Ball, Evans, Humphreys, Morsy, Camara/ Mass
in 23/24 we had 5 - Travis, Ball, Taylor, Morsy, Mass
in 24/25 we had 5 - Phillips, Cajuste, Taylor, Morsy, Mass

Cam Humphreys has to go out on loan IMO, there is no point him hanging about here as 5th choice, playing a couple of league cup games and taking up a spot.

At least 3 imho if we’re serious about promotion. Got to have 5 proper options for midfield. Not sold on Taylor and it’s a big ask to assume Cam will make the step up

Great to be bullish as he had a great season, but he played the bulk of the year in a much more attacking position in a much weaker league.

We need someone who can immediately step and be a top top championship player. If he's not that, there is no point keeping him as part of the squad IMO. Let him go play.

I think we have to keep him as 5th choice for a few reasons tbh.

We can't just keep loaning him out each season, it's just unfair on Cam. He needs a home to keep his progression on target. If we're not going to give him the chance to break through now, when will he get that chance? Our aim is to be promoted again next season, which would only mean another loan, as he then wouldn't be seen as Prem-ready.

If he stays and takes the opportunity to become a full-time match-day squad member, then there's a chance he may make it here. Which I'm sure most would like and would be helpful with all the churn we have in our midfield this season.

We either need to give him a chance in our squad again or let him find somewhere he can call home.

He's in Austria, so you'd assume McKenna will be giving him a good look.

I think in terms of ability, he's good enough, it's just whether the physical attributes will fit our profile or indeed there's the right space in the squad for him.

I wonder if Kmac has seen enough of Cam already that he is preparing to let Morsy go, knowing Cam will be solid back up to 2-3 new signings.

Taylor can do a job though and is a useful squad player. He looked quite good at times last season.

I do think he was improving, and whilst probably not starter quality for us now, is decent back up at Championship level, even at the top.

For me, Humphreys is not a direct replacement in the Morsy role. He is better suited as the more attacking of the two CMs.

Can't see us signing "at least 3". I think that's very, very unlikely. We'll probably see two more in with Morsy going, Taylor is absolutely fine as fourth choice.

Humphreys might not be 5th choice, tho. Could be higher up the pecking order after his success last season, his prime age for stepping up and the fact we are in the Champ, not Prem.

I agree with you but was that our starting or finishing position, I mean suspension risk and injury cover has been a feature of how we’ve ended certain seasons. I still go with minimum 4 starters plus Humphries.

I don't think you'd get much better than Taylor as a squad player who looks somewhat happy in that role.

Humphreys should be looking at a Championship loan.

So that's 3 x midfielders needed.

I' wouldn't be surprised if one was to be a Lewis Travis'like player who can come in, be experienced and do a solid job.

I can’t say how, but I do know but Taylor has been told that he will get more opportunities this season, so expect him to be one of the midfield options.

100%. And we aren’t going to spend another £30M+ on 3 more CMs. We need a couple and unless someone comes in for him, Taylor will be fine as part of that CM group, even if he’s not a natural defensive CM.

I would be absolutely astounded. Especially given the players we are being linked with.

Out of contract next summer though and doubt we have a huge urge to extend it. So imagine he's one available if the deal is right.

What use is he to us as 5th choice? He won't get game time, he therefore wont increase in value and he takes up a registration spot. There is no room for the 'home' sentiment IMO. We are a business and we need to maximise our assets.

He's 21, he's only had one loan. If we loan him out to a bottom half Champ, he starts, he plays well then we have a player who is improving, who is gaining value and becomes a real asset if we go up. If we keep him, he might oust Taylor (which will tank Taylor's value) but still be on the bench so it's a bit of a pointless exercise for everyone.

What would we get if we sold him? A few Mil?

It's the same with Ali A-H, being a squad player is counterproductive to his development and re-sale value.

The other thing is where would he go on loan and be guaranteed regular pitch time? He can be cover at left back as well as CM. Does he use up a squad place or is he under the age to do so?

He needs to be playing regularly but I wonder if he could get more pitch time with us than people expect. I would imagine how he does this preseason goes a long way to making McKenna's mind up on his role for the season ahead. Quite possibly a pivotal point in his career.
