Concerned Yet? 06:22 - Jul 23 with 3629 views | northstandwarky | Two quality midfielders and a striker required at least, no firm links to anyone apart from a 40yr old. I'm sure we will get a couple of loans from the Prem but is that enough?

Concerned Yet? on 06:40 - Jul 23 with 2576 views | EssexBloo | I’m starting to be a bit concerned. If Hirst or Azor get injured then I’ll really panic. However, if Hackney is now off to Palace then perhaps we will now move on to our next (reasonable) targets and those deals may be easier and quicker to do.
Concerned Yet? on 06:48 - Jul 23 with 2520 views | PioneerBlue | Concerned no, surprised a tiny bit, that ramps a tiny bit more ahead of the first league game (eg what if an injury to Azor or Taylor) but only really becomes a concern on Sept 01 based on the quality we have acquired in key positions. Having money is obviously proving more difficult to spend properly. I’m looking at the core group and thinking it’s 2 midfielders and 1 striker, but there is actually a fair bit of trimming to do. Ins ———— CM 1 CM 2 Forward/ Striker Outs ———— Morsy Omari Slicker Muric Baggott ? AAH ? H Clarke or Ben Johnson ? if Ashley Young arrives ? Is anything missed? [Post edited 23 Jul 9:06]

I wouldn't think it would ba a case of moving on as we no doubt have a number of irons in the fire. In fact, I'm starting to wonder if Hackney and the Mexican fella may, from the clubs point of view, be a welcome distraction for us and the media while they seal a deal for someone that hasn't been mentioned or even someone we've never heard of. Have to be patient difficult though it is ...

At the moment I see top 4, not as confident now about the top 2 with the captain leaving.
Concerned Yet? on 07:00 - Jul 23 with 2437 views | PMac13 | Nope, not even remotely concerned to be honest…. We have a habit of signings coming out of nowhere, no links for Azor until pretty much it was a done deal. Same with Kipre. I trust Ashton and McKenna to get the right players and if it takes a bit longer to get the right ones so be it. Rather that than panic buy like we did in the Evans era.

Concerned Yet? on 07:09 - Jul 23 with 2363 views | franz_tyson | Play it cool, Trig. The people in the know say we're looking at a higher level of player than Championship level which means these players have to turn down offers from the PL and other European top leagues... before we can get them. Therefore, this takes time. But... if we don't get these types of players we can look at the other group of lesser valued players hoping that they're still waiting on us and not accepting offers from inferior clubs than us. If these players have moved on ... then we're getting into panic mode and will either buy the leftovers or pay over the odds for mediocre players. Still time left, but if we don't get the players in by two weeks before the window closes then things are going wrong. No need for panic at the moment... but things are going to have to happen soon. I'm expecting many things are happening behind the scenes..... but please, no last minute panic buys. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Exactly. In our position, I think it's a case of later rather than sooner this window, as our targets will currently be hoping for a PL club to step in. And when they don't, that's where we come in - towards the end of the window.

I don't know why people are surprised at this? That's been the case for several years for Championship clubs. The first few games of the season are a bit of a lottery until the close of the transfer window.
Concerned Yet? on 08:36 - Jul 23 with 1761 views | itfcjoe | I think we'll get there, but it's very frustrating when the big kick off is 2 weeks away on Friday with how little we have been able to get done - and sure Ashton and McKenna are pulling their hair out too whilst fans with the same opinions are accused of being bed wetters We need more, we will get it, but come the end of the window if we are missing out on top targets it leaves us in a tough position to get what we need right now without jeapordising the future by giving good deals to players who won't be good enough for the longer term

My concern is if our intended targets that were “nailed on” fall through for whatever reason then we’re going to be left short and end up panic buying / loaning like we’ve seen to have done before a couple of times. I’m sure it’s all in hand but just some activity / rumours would make me more positive

How many promotion-chasing Champ clubs have their squads rebuilt and ready to go by the end of July? The reality is very few or none. We're not at the top of the food chain again thanks to relegation, so we've got to bide our time and see how the dominoes fall. My personal view is that we'll see more loan players from the PL come our way in the next week or 2 as PL managers iron out their squads first.
Concerned Yet? on 08:48 - Jul 23 with 1576 views | Bobbychase | Not concerned tbh. This management group has strengthened the squad every window since the new owners came in and this one will be the same. Hardly anyone has done many deals yet.

It might just be me, but it feels like each year more and more transfers get pushed later and later into the window. You can see why someone like Cajuste, Hackney or Guiu would want to take their time and to see what offers they get higher up the chain as the window progresses. Tough for us to weigh up and decide when the right time to move on is though. You even look at a free agent like Brownhill and it seems he is willing to sit it out for the biggest bag of cash later on in the window when someone gets desperate. [Post edited 23 Jul 8:52]

Never understood why the transfer window doesn't shut on 1st August, before the season starts. It would benefit all clubs to know where their squads lie before the leagues kick off.

IF we make no more signings, we are a handful of injuries away from a completely wasted season. I am happy with Al Hamadi coming on for the last 20 minutes, but wouldn't want him starting lots of games, with a youth on the bench, should Hirst not be able to play 46 games. IF there are no signings we would be gambling on Hirst playing 46 games. Similarly, we would be one injury in midfield away from youths on the bench in that position, too, and I don't mean Cam Humphreys- currently he is a match day squad fixture even without any injuries. Because of the inevitability of injuries, I would say that if there are no more signings by the end of August then 10th to 14th is probable. If Hirst and the Central Midfielders go the whole season without injury then, even with no further signings, we should have enough for Top Six, with or without Hutchinson. But there will be further signings before the end of the August window.

It would make more sense for sure. Where I think we will benefit this season (where we haven't before) is that I imagine we would be the top pick of a lot of our 'B' targets. So, if we miss out on 'A' targets late on we should be able to quickly pivot and beat other clubs to deals there. [Post edited 23 Jul 8:58]

Given the club were saying they were in negotiations as soon as we knew we were relegated last season, which they were implying gave us a head start in recruitment, it is surprising that there haven’t been more incomings.

Not sure they're that much of a lottery. After 7 games last seasons the ultimate top 3 of Burnley, Leeds and Sheffield United were all in the top 6 and had all picked up 2pgg or more, playoff winners Sunderland were 3rd, and the 3 relegated sides were all in the bottom 3rd of the table. WBA and Blackburn started strongly and tailed off, but generally speaking the league table takes shape by the end of September. Its crucial that we make a fast start if we're to find ourselves in the top 2, there's really not much margin for error at all given recent seasons hurdle rates. The way I see it is if we finish above both Birmingham and Southampton this season we'll probably find ourselves in the top 2, especially if Leicester get hit with the 9 point deduction. Sheff United will likely be strong as well, and we play all 3 of those in the opening 5 fixtures. I wouldn't say the results to mid September can make our season, but they could go a long way to breaking it. As others have said though I don't think there's as much work to do as some are suggesting. We'll do more than 2, but realistically we're probably 1 CM addition and 1 #9 away from being in a position where we would have an incredible enviable squad at this level, if we don't already.
