Woolfie has asked McKenna to leave, can’t say I blame him for his career sake but definitely sad a homegrown lad is off!

Not new news, from what I’ve been told. Which would make sense as lots of people pointed out that he seemed “disconnected” from the rest of the squad during the lap of honour after the West Ham game. Sounds like it’s been brewing for a while. Wouldn’t blame him if he did want first team football tbh. Would imagine somewhere around £3-5m would be our asking price.

£3-5 million? Surely he's worth more than that?

Oshea is miles above wolfy as a defender.

As a ball player. Maybe not. Imo

Wolfenden has unfortunately a few too many lapse moments in him

That's something that is repeated on here and then taken as fact. I don't recall a single lapse in concentration from Woolfie last season. Not once.

Agree. But maybe it's similar lapses to posters who can't be bothered to spell his name correctly.

Woolfenden is an exceptional ball playing central defender at this level.

If we sell him, it will require us to part with 5-10m to bring in a player of a similiar quality, who we'll most likely need to replace anyway if we achieve promotion back to the Premiership.

Personally, i think we should keep him at all costs. The end of the season and promotion might mean another story, but for now in the Championship he is essential back up / rotation. An injury to O'Shea etc and he is straight in.

We have to be careful not to lose too much of the DNA that made us so sucessfull in the first place and Woolfie is part of that.

It's also not the first time something like this has happened before, he's had quite a few grumbles in the past.

I see your point but I wouldn’t keep him at all costs. I think he’s a good player and an asset. But he has to want to be here. If he wants away, see ya later. We need the players all pulling in the same direction, as they did in the promotion seasons.

I don’t know what he’s like as a person. It maybe he’s the type to be disappointed but under contract just gets on with it. He may be a moaner or trouble. His agent may be badgering him to push for a move for his percentage. Who knows.

Unhappy players, whether it’s him, Hutchinson, Clarke or Bluey for example are guaranteed to kill our season before it begins. So if he seriously wants out, fine, let him go with thanks and a transfer fee.

I get your point.

He's had grumbles and fallings out with Hurst, Lambert, Cook and wobbles with McKenna before. I think that's the way he is and hopefully with good man management we can talk him round.

Genuinly think he'd be/is superb in a team that dominates much of the ball at this level.

Never going to play ahead of O'Shea though. He will be the new captain and the first name on the team sheet every game if he's available. If he isn't then is Woolfy ahead of Kipre? So he is possibly the 3rd choice RCB. If you get a decent offer and can sell with the whole fee being recognised as profit for PSR reasons then I can see why we would.

Slightly facetious but I'd be more worried if players hadn't had falling outs with Hurst, Lambert and Cook! They all made an utter mess of their time here.

Though if there are rumours around about him being difficult to manage it could limit the amount we get for him, or if he moves on at all. The latter may not be a bad thing, as long as McKenna can manage his apparent unhappiness.

...and the thing is regardless of whether he's 2nd or 3rd choice he's not going to get much game time unless there are injuries.

The front 3 or 4 are swapped out in just about every game, one midfielder is also usually subbed. It's rare for any manager to substitute a centre back unless there's an injury. So Woolfie knows what his role will be and realizes there is very little chance of forcing his way into the team.

Like Burgess he probably just wants regular football and that's unlikely to happen here.

I didn’t understand it at all.

As a free agent, he would’ve been very much in demand by championship clubs.

Strange, though we will never know what was in his contract of course. Maybe he can leave for a relatively small fee?

Thinking about it, I wonder if the belief around the club, and with Woolfenden himself, was O'Shea would.move on in the summer - maybe back to Burnley or to one of the other promoted/lower Premier League sides. McKenna perhaps said, if that happened, we'd look to replace him with cover and Woolfenden would get the nod as first choice RCB.

With O'Shea staying and being given the captaincy things have now changed.

I really don't get this "Woolfy has been treated badly, Broadhead has been treated badly, Burgess was treated badly..." nonsense.
Football today is a squad game and every week fourteen of that squad will not start a game. Are they all "treated badly"? The days when Sir Bobby only had 15 players to chose from (and then, if fit) are long gone.
As a home grown local lad, Woolfy has a place in our hearts, but I don't think he is guaranteed an automatic start at any Championship side. He will still be a squad player having to fight for his place.

The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence!

I trust KM's judgement but I really struggle to understand the approach to Wolfy and Broady alike.

Wolfy is for my money the most consistent CB over the past 4 years. A really classy player, rolls Royce like at times.

He's never had a poor spell imo. Would be very sad to see him go. Especially with the local link.

I think it’s two different scenario, assuming these rumours are true.

It sounds like Wolf is pushing for a move because he wants to start regularly. It’s not KM looking to move him on. Personally I think O Shea is better than Wolf. Kipre is also right footed. Don’t really see anything to blame KM on this. Wolf has been a brilliant servant but I totally respect his reasoning for wanting to leave.

I think the Broady situation is different. For whatever reason KM doesn’t fully trust him as witnessed by the signings of Philogene and Clarke. Personally think he’ll be missed but have to trust the manager and it’s a bloody good fee

He was a key player for a club which finished second in the division the season before last. Now he's not good enough to start for any Championship team?

Good grief. Have you seen the CBs in this league? He’s good enough to be a starter in a promotion winning team, never mind “any” Championship side.

I'd argue Davis, O'Shea, Matusiwa, Hackney (if he joins) and Hirst, at this stage, will all be guaranteed starts? Then others, such as Hutch, Philogene, Clarke, Szmodics and maybe Chaplin will be rotated.
