It’s going to be very very interesting on 23:47 - Aug 5 with 1404 views | unstableblue | I think what I’m about to say could be described as hyperbole - you know exaggerated/OTT not to be taken too seriously BUT I would say the first months results and points tally could be season defining. We have two really tough games to start, Leicester have a cake walk. It’s very difficult to call as we will have a hangover from last season, and McKenna is changing shape a bit and key personal - for Morsy for one. Part of me thinks 8 points like you which I think would be a great start Another part thinks we’ll come out like a steam train and get 10-12 points And another thinks we’ll lose the first two and flop to 4 points… and fan and club morale will get impacted. The PR faithful would really respond well to a Saints win. But I’ll go with 9 points and still in the Carabao.

If we turn up, with our squad we should be winning all these games. Soton may be a banana skin but we are at home so fingers crossed we can beat them, without the need for a Sarmiento moment (though that would be hilarious)

First months predictions on 07:21 - Aug 6 with 918 views | textbackup | I just want to get passed the first 20/25mins of the Brum game before I try and figure out the rest of the month! Going to be really interesting to see how we stand up to that test, as they’ll be relentless. A defence packed with a seasons PL experience however, you’d like to think we’ll be able to control that.

That's similar to how I feel. Our first 11, even without the pending signings, should be too good for most in the league. There is, however, the whole momentum side of things. Can we shake off the hangover? We've had a fairly good pre-season, but that means absolutely nothing. Birmingham will have that 'invincibility shield' that we had in 23/24, and St. Andrews will be rocking from kick-off. I think much of this season will depend on how consistently solid our defence turns out to be. I don't think we'll get away with the out-scoring the oppo approach we had last time out in the Champ. We're a favourite this year, clear plans will be laid against us, and I suspect we will see much more of the low block being used against us. I don't think our start will be season-defining, but yes, I agree, I think it will be month-defining!

People talk about Birmingham having momentum and using us in our promotion season as an example . But if you recall, Sunderland absolutely battered us for the first 30 minutes of that first game. We couldn’t get hold of the ball and it looked like men against boys. The real sliding doors moment was Bellingham missing an absolute sitter. We scored against the run of play and the rest is history. We need an early goal against Birmingham. If we score that I think we will control the game and win comfortably. [Post edited 6 Aug 7:41]

I expect first 20-30 minutes will be very high intensity but it will come down to who takes chances. Let’s go back to our first game when we were promoted, Sunderland threw the bus at us which would in theory be the other way around but they are the home team, we scored the goals that day to make the difference. I’m expecting to have found a more clinical edge this summer because the PL is faster and better meaning shooters have to be better and quicker, other than the crowd and momentum there shouldnt be anything to be concerned by unless we can’t find a way to control the game in-possession. If the game opens up, I will be more confident that between Hirst, Clarke, Szmodics, Ogbene, Chappers we should create and make more chances than Birmingham and whoever plays in our midfield should be able to get us moving up the pitch. Indeed - we got the rub of the green in our early win against QPR as well if I recall correctly (didn't one of their shots bounce off both posts?!). Both of those games could have gone differently, but instead we ended up with six points, setting the tone for the rest of the season. Sometimes it's just your year. Anyway, I have a feeling we're going to have a slow start this time and need to be patient. I'm going five points in August and a traditional early exit from the League Cup that I won't give a toss about: DLDLW

We can’t be losing to Bromley… mainly because my workmate is a Southampton/Bromley fan…

Agree on paper we should be heading for my optimistic prediction of winning the first 4 And it’s Greaves and OShea and now Azor in front of them that give me most confidence, that and the form of Hirst. But confidence and pressure are challenging elements in football, and a loss at St Andrew’s puts pressure on the team for the arrival of Southampton who’s manager and squad could be a challenge. Really hope the PR crowd can fire up for that one… despite the midday Sunday kick-off.

I live less than 20 miles north of Birmingham. Imagine how miserable it will be if we lose to them. I've been here nearly 30 years, and in that time, they have always seemed to be one of our bogey teams. It's about time we took them to pieces in both league games of a season, just for my sanity!

Just watch us go out on pens and then tell ourselves the next morning that it's 'taken some of the pressure off the fixture list'.

First months predictions on 10:37 - Aug 6 with 196 views | JammyDodgerrr | I don't really share the same concern around Birmingham most seem to do it, I think they'll feel like they have to absolutely come at us, which as we've seen time and time again under McKenna, will just suit us. We've frequently taking on attacking teams in this league and the league below and we usually just swat them aside. I think it'll be similar. I can see us genuinely winning four of the five, with a draw against Southampton.
