Not sure why it matters. But the answer is that it went into the engines, apparently. Likely necessitating a full strip down and rebuild.

I don’t see 65000 people the majority woman and children and some queuing for food being killed here, we unfortunately have people getting their knickers in a twist over 60 people in hotel trying to escape wars and dictatorships.

Britain played a big role in the formation of Israel and the subsequent nakba, where arabs were forced from their homes and land. America, our closest ally is financing the current ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the continuing theft of land by so called settlers in the West Bank. Consecutive governments have refused to condemn the ethnic cleansing or America’s financing of it. Israel is, supposedly, a developed democracy, with close ties to western democracies. The Palestinian people have no voice and they are being starved and slaughtered by our ally, and our politicians do nothing. Of course those of us with a conscience are outraged and saddened. That doesn’t mean we don’t care about other atrocities taking place around the world. [Post edited 10 Aug 14:26]

the war in yemen has killed 300,000 plus and saudi arabia, one of our closest allies, plus the usa etc, have been combatants. why no weekly marches and social media focus? 100,000+ ukranians have been killed by russia - no weekly demonstrations outside the russian embassy? 500+ children have died of starvation in nigeria, a middle income state we have close ties to, where are the demonstrations and the social media outrage. if you claim that 'standing by' is unacceptable, why are people standing by in these cases?

When it comes to Yemen, I imagine many of those currently protesting in favour of Palestine Action will have been critical of Western involvement. But more generally that conflict has been kept off the news, in my view in order to hide Western involvement. And if people don't know what's going on, they are not going to protest. As regards Ukraine, the contrast with Gaza couldn't be greater, with strong government and public support from the outset, vast amounts of military and humanitarian aid, 250,000 Ukrainian refugees and Ukrainian flags everywhere. In such circumstances, there is no need to protest because there isn't a need to try to change government policy. As regards Nigeria, that is, sadly, the sort of thing that only gets reported on the World Service which I listen to daily. [Post edited 10 Aug 14:59]

Britain is supporting Ukraine and all parties have condemned the Russian invasion. Yemen, sadly, is a hidden atrocity, which keeps it from people’s minds. I’m sure if it was more widely reported, people would be protesting. Saudi Arabia should definitely not be our ally, but oil is a powerful tool in the battle for world order. Many posters on here have called out colonialism and American aggression. Britain was directly involved in the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and there were huge demonstrations. As many as 1 million people lost their lives, and for what? Should they have just stayed silent, because other people elsewhere are dying? The world is big. Ordinary people can’t focus on, and protest against, everything that happens.

I see you're quick to tar the left based on the actions of a few individuals, the sort of thing I thought you considered to be corrosive in political debate. Perhaps that's only your thinking when it's those of you on the right who are in the wrong though. Also not really sure what the point of this post is given that everyone has condemned the actions of those who broke into the RAF base and caused millions of pounds of damage. Not like you to straw man it.

Basically protesting about this bad thing is invalid cos you haven't protested about other bad things. Just a desperate effort to find a way to devalue people's efforts. Apart from sniping from the sidelines what do you do?

What a waste of our taxes on 09:54 - Aug 10 by Blueschev | I’d argue that civil disobedience in an age where laws are abused is essential if we wish to continue to live in a free society. |
Post of the thread so far. It’s always been a prerequisite towards a fairer society to challenge draconian and authoritarian laws. To be perfectly honest, I don’t think I’d have the guts to do it, but I’d defend anyone’s rights to resist/fight for a better future. I’m not sure how far I’d go on the use of violence (I’ve never thought about it before now). I instinctively thought I’d not support violent protest, but maybe there are some cases when regimes are so brutal it’s needed? Not in this case, but against the extreme injustices like apartheid.

What a waste of our taxes on 13:21 - Aug 10 by lowhouseblue | well people generally seem ok about staying silent and standing by as horror unfolds in sudan, yeman, nigeria, ukraine, as well as the uyghurs in china. their horror isn't forcing them on to the streets in respect of those humanitarian disasters. |
But to a greater or lesser degree it has though. People have protested about all of those terrible situations you mention. That said, I just don't get the Ukraine reference. That reference alone almost undermines the whole premise of your point (which has same basis in fact). I really don't get that. The others you mention just don't get the air time or the coverage, but there will always be a group of interested people campaigning against them. You've mentioned these other horrors several times before, so I'm presuming they are causes you feel very passionately about. What do you do about? Do you attend protests or are you just making a point about others picking and chosing what causes they support? That's fair enough but arguably a little unreasonable if you do nothing yourself.

It is absolutely shameful and utterly reminiscent of Hong Kong, Russia, and Trumps America. Probably sufficient to persuade me that I will never consider a vote for Labour. If they were holding up signs saying that they supported an active murderous terrorist group, then fine. That's what the law is for. The proscription of a protest group under terror laws in the birthplace of modern democracy is beyond appalling. Under these laws, people wearing greenpeace badges, CND signs etc could easily be proscribed on similar grounds and people arrested accordingly as terrorists. [Post edited 10 Aug 18:54]
