Feel Johnson has looked better when he has been deployed further forward, with the injuries / departures there you can easily see that being Kierans plan for him |
We've just spent £12m on McAteer, have Ogbene there already with Burns to come back and Egeli if he signs also an operator off that side. Putting Johnson there gives us 5 players for that position which is clearly too many and won't happen.
Have to think about squad numbers as well - we're in the territory of an incoming meaning someone else has got to go. |  |

This is my thought, in some ways. I’m not sure Furlong is a big enough upgrade on Johnson to warrant all the extra disruption.
But surely they would just try to sign a LB? I don’t see Young being a proper back-up for Davis.

Think a lot of people are looking at the price and age through glasses made in 2005.
£4M isn’t actually that much for a Championship plus player. In terms of age - promotion to the PL is worth at least £150M to the club. If he helps us achieve promotion and then becomes a squad player then it’ll still be money worth spent.
Edit. From Phil’s article, DF has also captained WBA and so must be quite a strong character which is what teams also need. [Post edited 28 Aug 10:55]

Ben Johnson is not a bad player, I just don't think he fits the system at all.
Last year you could see why we needed that RWB option. This year it's not needed and I think he's struggling with it.
Furlong fits the profile that Axel left behind slightly better and I think that's what KM ultimately wants. | | | |
