Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:53 - Aug 30 by pointofblue | I think it's fair to say the squad which won double promotion was greater than the sum of it's parts. Now we have one which is lesser. I honestly don't think we'd be much worse off with Woolfenden and Burgess at the back at this present time. |
I agree. As individuals they all had weaknesses. But they all covered each other's weaknesses. We don't have that now We've gone from what was a united squad to a squad of individuals.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 19:53 - Aug 30 by Swansea_Blue | He can feel hard done by. As can Hladky (assuming he left because he knew he would be demoted) and Burgess. It would be easier to take if their replacements were improving us. |
Seems to be a weakness in McKenna that he can't judge how good a player is defensively.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:49 - Aug 30 by Libero | When is Leif Davis leaving, again?! 😂 |
Not quite what i said is it? Getting desperate. Leif has been talked round by McKenna to commit but was very much considering leaving. Hence the Forest rumours. Hence the very public declaration of commitment. Are you too blinkered to see what's right in front of you fella? Is it too difficult to comprehend that players may think of leaving ITFC? Christ almighty. 😂 🤣

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:47 - Aug 30 by DavoIPB | No he isn't. He rarely finds a player with his passes and he is very ponderous on the ball. do agree not the best defender. Part of a team that shipped loads of goals, we were just very good in attack at the time |
The reason we shipped goals back then is we were easy to play through; despite Morsy's qualities we were weak in the middle. Now we seem stronger in the middle, so teams bypass us by launching it long - and it seems to work. If you're saying Woolfenden rarely finds players with his passes, I give up. And he's no more ponderous than the CBs we play now.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 19:53 - Aug 30 by Kieran_Knows | Putting aside whether it’s right or wrong him not being in the side, if he has ‘wanted to leave for some time’ then why on earth did he sign a new contract just 7 months ago? Baffling from him and his agent. |
Was just thinking he's only "recently" signed a contract. Something doesn't add up, unless "some time" means a few months.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:44 - Aug 30 by FrimleyBlue | The reason is simple. Stat wise he doesn't win alot of heaers. Loses alot of duels etc. He's a ball playing cb and a bloody good one. But defending itself isn't his strong point which is a problem as a cb. |
From what I can see 5 foot11 Caceres has an aerial win% of 56% so I doubt he's the answer in the Championship. Woolfy appears to be better in the air.

Woolfenden - McK BBC Interview on 20:51 - Aug 30 by FrimleyBlue | Osheas stats speak for themselves. He's head and shoulders above wolfy on those specific stats. But as said a while ago. I still don't think we'd be worse off with the same squad we got promoted with. It had problems but it worked. Now we have problems that won't work |
Centre back is a position where the impact cannot be quantified by stats, given the amount of defending which is position based - I think it was Nesta who said that by the time defenders have to make a tackle they’ve already made a mistake. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

But to a stat man it would be important. Same as all the other signings we've made. None of them match what the others actually gave us.

Woolf doesn't engage in a lot of aerial duels tbf, which I think distorts his success at it (if judging based on win percentage). Take our 23/24 season for instance, Luke averaged 1.77 won headers per 90', 20th percentile for CBs in the Championship. Cam averaged 4.08, 93rd percentile. I don't put that forward as a reason to replace Woolf with Caceres though; find it regrettable & understandable that our man's unhappy in his role and wants to go. I would too in his position, he's given things enough time to know KM's pecking order won't shift in his favour.

He's more than good enough. And, even if he wasn't he deserves respect for what he helped the club to achieve, along with the rest of the double promotion group. Not a sneering dismissal.

This is a great quote. John Terry made a career (and a legacy) from making last ditch tackles when all seemed lost. In reality, he was often caught out of position and his pace got him out of trouble. Woolfenden's best skill is reading the game. He's always in the right position. I've never seen a player intercept as many balls into the box aimed at the near post. He's short on pace, no doubt. But so was Baresi.😉

I also think defensive pairings should have one front foot defender and one back foot defender, Wolfie being a good example of a back foot defender and both O’Shea and Greaves being front foot defenders. I think Greaves’ best games for us have come next to Wolfy and I think that’s why!

He never was "always in the right position", he quite frequently had lapses in concentration. This forum is a weird place.
