We didn’t need JP when we got him, and we don’t need him now.

Hes one of many players of size and stature in the game that the kids think are ‘flames’ or a ‘baller’ but in actual fact have no character or personality to do anything.

For £20m for should be dictating parts of a game, but there’s nothing.

We’ll be good again... one day

I agree we didn't need him but this is a player that was one of villa's best players in a Champions League game against Bayern Munich less than a year ago.

To be this much of a non factor in a Championship game should not be possible. it has to be attitude based.

Am I right in remembering that he was a defensive demon that game? I don't remember him being a potent attacking threat.

Ultimately he couldn't hit the necessary levels to stay with Villa, would be the fair assessment imo, as opposed to he was a quality player at that level and just isn't applying himself properly here.

So good Villa sold him after 6 months. We've been mugged off.

I thought he had a good spell in first half when he was trying to attack the fullback and then off the ball he was making runs behind but was only found once - when he twisted and blazed over!
I think he's a confidence player but I would prefer Clarke to start on the left. I think he's natural game to cut inside will create space for Leif but, imo, we just have to move the ball faster!

Hahah have a day off. He put in another stinker, shanking crosses and passing balls into the midfield without even looking, whilst looking weak as anything else.

Genuinely could be our worst pound for pound signing ever. It’s been an absolute show for him whilst he’s been here.

Three upvotes for this comment. Have some fans lost the plot trying to make themselves feel better? Sorry but he was horrific second half.

I saw him come on for Villa 3 times last year and my first thought each time was in quite pleased that deal didn’t go through. I want so much for it to work but he should be a star at this level for that price tag. Not only that it’s zapping confidence from Davis.

I’d genuinely consider playing Szmodics inside left, Akpom (central 10), Egili/McAteer and Azon up front in two weeks.

It's annoying me that so many of our expensive signings seem to be trying to correct a previous expensive signing.

The money we've spent to be in this much limbo is staggering.

My issue with Philogene isn't that he's rubbish, because he's a perfectly OK player for us, it's that for £20m we really ought to be getting so much more than ''OK'.

Given the price tag, how hard we went after him, and to be honest his reputation in the game too, I want to see him making game changing contributions. At the minute it's like a Cole Skuse version of a winger.

I’m pleased with our business in the last 3 days (who knows if I’ll be right).

Last year was just feels overall bad for the fees paid outside of Delap and we already knew what we had in Omari. Felt like throwing good money after bad really and McAteer (gut feeling) seems like a wild fee to me as well. Start playing Akpom and let’s hope the Norwegian lad is fearless and go just go for the off because we need something.

As much as winning breeds confidence look at 23/24, not winning can have the opposite effect and it’s way worse when it’s all new teammates. Today was big, could have gone into the break on a high. More questions than answers, still.

He’s obviously got talent but unfortunately, doesn’t look like the kind of player that when the chips are down is going to do something special to change a game. Like Leicester had at Charlton or Omari done so much for us. What defenders are scared of him?

At times (and is at this respectfully) it looks like he’s playing under 18 vs men’s football. Can’t keep waiting to a breakout type performance and looking for little crumbs of positives from him. Genuinely can’t remember seeing him really beat a man in a blue shirt tbh.

Absolutely this. He occupies space and gets on the ball but generally has done nothing bar a few flicks.

Against a low block he isn’t unpicking defenses. One thing I will say is I doubt Hull faced many low blocks.

When Cajuste sent Chaplin away with a great flick what that hell was that ball to him though from chappers? Wasn’t on the deck and was behind him, he was in with a simple ball. It’s little moments like this that are really hurting us and so frustrating to watch.

I remember people telling me he was going to cook it up, and tear this league apart on, along with Jack Clarke when I said they aren’t good enough.

I haven’t heard from a few of them posters lately.

Timid from him today which was a shame given he was one of the few bright sparks last week (and was good against Southampton), but I do feel for him a bit as he seems to have become the poster boy for over spending/bad recruitment which means he gets zero credit for anything from a section of the fanbase. He didn't decide what fee the club paid for him.

He was among the most dangerous attackers last time in the Championship for Hull but for whatever reason hasn't shown much of that here. Rosenior did seem to have his attackers playing more off the cuff than following stricter tactical instructions so maybe that suited him more? Not that he couldn't have done more but he was doubled up on every time he had the ball today and Davis didn't really offer him a huge deal of help.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Whilst I agree stats aren't everything....

He was cr@p today. At times he just ran into the corner.....and presumably trying to win a throw or corner but usually coming away with nothing.

The shot near the end pretty much summed up his day!

Philogene stats from today make for ugly reading ... on 00:15 - Aug 31 with 1287 viewsJrm_72

I thought there was one moment for me that summed up Philogene's day.

Ball goes out to him on left on a quick break. Just got Dion Sanderson to beat, widely recognised as slowest CB in the league. Think he is gonna knock it round him and burn him for pace. Just stands there. Play catches up and Hirst makes a nice diagonal run. Think he is going to put him through. Just stands there. Someone comes up and tackles him. He shrugs.

His decision making was really poor and his body language to me just looked like he really couldn't care less. Same sort of 'well, I'm here ain't I?' vibe you get from a Wimpy's server.
