I find the situation regarding the EADT quite pathetic,
Unless you subscribe you can't even get an update on the transfer window .
Not in my opinion doing themselves any favours.
I don't expect to read the whole newspaper for nothing, but when it comes to our home team they should allow more access than a headline and a few words whilst removing the rest of the article. PATHETIC. |  | | |  |

With so much content available for free elsewhere it’s how they make their money I guess.
To be honest I’d rather watch that kid Jack on YouTube break down analysis of Nunez and Egili visually than pay for EADT to hear what they had for lunch and snappy snaps or something weird.
They don’t break news either so obviously have to get the green light from the club.
Even though I find him monotone and boring I don’t mind Watson.
They need to do stuff on YouTube live and move away from the childish things if they want to stay a bit more relevant I think.
Doubt people want to pay for written articles much these days. |  |

Totally agree. I use to like reading their write up and player ratings but I'm not subscribing just for that. If i was that bothered I'd bypass their firewall but quite happily getting my news from the number one source of Ipswich news on the web - TWTD! |  |

FWIW I think they do a relatively good job in the circumstances. As already mentioned they are competing against more agile social media competition and they are slightly constrained by having to maintain a relationship with the club. Stu and Alex offer some decent insight. Local media is a dying form these days. | | | |

The biggest problem that they have is that their content is effectively in the public domain as soon as it is published. I get that professional journalism costs but there appear to only be 3 options: put it behind a subscription and hope enough are willing to pay; a funded model along the lines of the BBC; advertising to pay for it.
There are problems with each of these not least accountability and partiality (less of an issue in sport than political coverage).
I do fear for the future of journalism and the implications that brings. |  |

Newsquest acquired Archant and questioned why they weren't monetizing popular content.
I think Stu, Alex etc are hamstrung in that respect.
Their podcasts are free on audio podcast platforms, but the YouTube version is subscription only, I think. |  |

Their coverage this summer has been pretty rubbish to be honest. Don't think it's fair for people to say they have no exclusives or anything new as Stu Watson's been first to a few things but unless he's across something then there isn't any other meat on the bone.
The totally pointless 'transfer roundup' pieces which just listed various rumours and offered no journalistic insight into them, instead going for a series of 'source sort of reliable, could be true' or 'source not very reliable, probably not true' were a particular lowlight.
Appreciate they have to get stuff into print for the papers and it's very tough when not much is happening but not sure how many people are interested in some jabroni who played for us half a decade ago moving to a different lower league club. |  |

I to like Stuart Watson and I do miss his live match coverage. But last season when they went subscriptions only I moved on. It is not worth the money. As it been said there are other places you can still watch/read things else where. |  | | |

It's the same with most news outlets tho. Whenever someone posts a link to an article in the EADT/Ipswich Star... or the Daily Mail / Guardian etc... you only get the option to subscribe, or 'read for free by accepting their cookies' - which I never want to do, so just close the link and stay ignorant. | | | |

But we should pay for good journalism If we can. I subscribed and a big part of it was supporting Stuart Watson - he's been an excellent Town reporter and is always thoughtful and considered. A very good writer too. [Post edited 1 Sep 19:16]
