"It was ultimately decided by a majority..."

"...the three Championship Directors abstained..."

Obviously we'll never know what spin the three that abstained tried (or did not try) to inject into the discussions, but them not voting seems a pragmatic way of dealing with the conflict of interest.

From a panel of 8, with three abstentions, if I'm thinking through it right, a 'majority' is equivalent to a unanimous decision amongst those that voted.

Interesting that the three club representatives abstained (correctly imo) and it was a majority decision. Hopefully the rules will be changed to make this kind of nonsense redundant.

Don't wait too long for the EFL to decide on something really difficult like Leicester's financial irregularities.

I get they were winning but what else was the alternative? The game hadn’t finished. If they had played the final 10 mins then it’s not a true representation of the game state, tiredness etc.

It was the only option and I would say the same thing if we were winning.

I think we're suffering from being perceived as one of the leagues big boys, with all our parachute money trying to bully the EFL into getting what we want. Blackburn beating Ipswich would have been a big-ish scalp. If it was Sheffield Wednesday instead of Ipswich I don't think they'd have offered this reaction and childishness.

I believe they are waiting on the outcome of the PL case before pursuing their own one. There's a good summary here of where it's at and I don't think it's going away for them.

Blackburn are making themselves look tinpot over this.

The ultimate cause of the whole thing is their failure to provide a surface fit to play on. Drainage is a known long term problem there apparently and it hasn’t been addressed. How can they expect to benefit from that?

The referee didn’t help because the game should have been abandoned at the start of the second half. It was obvious problems were developing and would only be getting worse. Apart from anything else players were increasingly at risk of being injured with tackles being misjudged in standing water.

Have we progressed from "When are the EFL going to make a decision ?" to "When is Blackburn's appeal ?" question now ?

It was on 65 mins while awaiting the Gudjohnson substitution that Alex Palmer tried to bounce the ball in the goal mouth and it just stuck in the water. I felt at the time he should have spoken with the referee to show him how bad it had got, the Kipre sliding tackle with a massive bow wave was also ignored, apart from the yellow card.

I can’t really believe how this became a debate, this is always what has happened in the past, replaying the game, when did a rule suddenly become an open question? A majority decision means at least one person voted to award Blackburn the points (unless they voted for the farce of a 10 minute match). So in the mind of that board member(s) and Blackburn Rovers a game is over when there are 10 mins plus stoppage time to go and a team are one player and one goal up. Just blow for full time on 80 as the result is decided. Unbelievable.

Poll: Who do you blame for our failure to progress?

If Ipswich have integrity they should let Blackburn score … and take off a player in the 49th minute … there is a precedent for giving away a goal if we are using precedents in all of this mess.

He's talking gash.... situations where teams gift goals have been in situations where that team has clearly been a fault for an error/decision in game.

Ipswich are absolutely blameless here and are entitled to play a football game that lasts 90 minutes normal time in playable conditions.

The 'appeal' will never happen. It's just playing to the audience I assume from their board.

There was only ever one outcome with the FA rules and the previous EFL precedents.

The 'precedent' in that case (as per SuffolkPunchFC's link in another thread) is where the match was called off at HT after a player had a heart attack (which he fortunately survived). An unforseeable near-tragedy. Not the host club having defective drainage, with deteriorating pitch conditions possibly having affected the game situation and scoreline*.

* By inhibiting our attacks in the second half. Other than the penalty and a couple of shots, one heavily deflected, Blackburn didn't really look like scoring.

Once a decision is made, any appeal now has to find compelling grounds to overturn it. More than just: "We don't think it's fair".

The result of wishy washy rules. If it was Town 1-0 up and Rovers had 10 men and the game was abandoned with say 20 minutes including injury time would we have been happy with a replay ? I doubt it.
The EFL needs to make the rules clear, where it is not necessary to wait the best part of five days to decide what the outcome will be.
I can understand a game being called off due to in this instance the ball not able to roll over a certain distance.
Questions have to be asked of Rovers pitch where other games in the area concluded and if a similar thing happens again they should be made to play home games somewhere else.

What will he be saying if next time the pitch floods Blackburn are 1 - 0 down? I think he might have a different view.

Other than some fans' unreasonable impatience, what does it really matter that it took a few days for an announcement?
