A really small issue that I do not like. 15:59 - Oct 9 with 4627 views | MattinLondon | At this time of year when a lot of the shops and supermarkets and internet sites are all geared towards Christmas. It really bothers me when Father Christmas is referred to as Santa Claus. Father Christmas just sounds much more jolly and welcoming. And I’ve never really liked the name Santa Claus and it bothers me. Are there anymore small things or issues that bothers anyone? And by small, I mean quite insignificant that doesn’t bother anyone?

Watching a male pigeon puff himself up and dance around in circles like Mick Jagger to woo a female, only for her to fly off unimpressed is one of life's little hilarious pleasures. And, of course, Norfolk's greatest hero wasn't Nelson: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cher_Ami

that's the neat thing about being Stateside or Canada, there's a real celebration of autumn (fall) with Halloween and their Thanksgivings (Canadian next week), which keeps Xmas at an arms' length

That’s probably an Americanism, and works over there as Thanksgiving is bigger. It’s all one long holiday season from Halloween, through Thanksgiving, Christmas and then New Year. When we were there we put our lights up in mid-October and took them down 3 months later (kept them up longer as they looked good in the snow!). kids loved it

Miserable git. October is the start of the countdown. Brief pitstop for Halloween and fireworks before the real countdown begins.

Oops, hadn’t seen this. Yes, it’s very different with plenty to stop people having a 3 month run-up to Xmas.

Kind of true except one local store near me has 25 foot high inflatable goblins and witches competing with even bigger inflatable Santas. For whatever reason, this year in my ‘hood there’s way more people decorating their houses for Halloween. Orange and purple lighting everywhere.

I loved the fall when Stateside and Halloween a huge part of that, though having Thanksgiving so late really takes the wind out of Xmas - though again the whole (carefully non-denominational) 'Holiday Season' with nutcrackers the safe non-religiously aligned characters up front and centre is also quite different to home

I share your pain bro. Thinking of applying for a shotgun license specially for them … Years of thousands of their fist-sized dumps all over every surface in the garden incl furniture, gates, doors, windows, walls, tools left unattended for 5 minutes will finally do that to you

My father in law detested them. He was always complaining about them - rats with wings waking you up in the morning with their sex games and then wrecking your lawn. When he died we discovered an air rifle in his cupboard. There's no doubt what it was there for

Big fan of Thanksgiving. Four-day weekend, no gifts to buy, plenty of sport on telly and some slap-up meals cooked by other people. Yes, thanks!

A really small issue that I do not like. on 16:31 - Oct 9 by Illinoisblue | Email signatures with an “inspirational” quote and in an elaborate font. Wrong uns. |
When pressured into having such quotes in an e-mail signature, I have often been tempted to use one of the epigraphs marking the start of each chapter in Twain's Puddnhead Wilson; such as: Tell the truth or trump—but get the trick Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education. Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry. Habit is habit, and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed down-stairs a step at a time. One of the most striking differences between a cat and a lie is that a cat has only nine lives. The holy passion of Friendship is of so sweet and steady and loyal and enduring a nature that it will last through a whole lifetime, if not asked to lend money. It is easy to find fault, if one has that disposition. There was once a man who, not being able to find any other fault with his coal, complained that there were too many prehistoric toads in it. When angry, count four; when very angry, swear.
