Tony’s is interesting. Great company, fully on board with their ethics but their chocolate is crap and tastes like it’s been sitting in an advent calendar for 3 months.

Plain old Cadburys Dairy milk block.

But for a close second and a true chocolate bar it’s hard to beat a Mars Bar. In the fridge. Chilled down. Wrapper sliced lengthways and said bar sliced into perfect sections. A gift of the gods.

Honourable mention to Crunchy, Peppermint Aero, Twirl, Wispa, Toffee Crisp, Yorkie, Flake and KitKat.

The devil’s rear end droppings are anything with peanuts and any American chocolate, Hersheys being astonishingly bad. Ban! Their version of MarsBars (Milky Way over there) and KitKat is bearable but the chocolate too sweet.

I often trick myself into thinking that mainstream chocolate that they sell at every cafe and golf pro shop isn’t good as it’s too common and its packaging is so basic - Mars, KitKat, Twix as the main trio in my mind. But Mars is actually exceptional and Twix isn’t bad either. KitKat is a bit basic but a solid option out of your golf bag when you hit the turn.

More broadly I agree with the disappointing direction of Cadbury. My wife and I eat chocolate most nights and have sadly had to check cocoa % on the back of all Cadbury. Twirl is the highest % these days and therefore their closest to original flavour for a pure choc bar. Weirdly Giant Buttons perform well too. Wispa has competitive cocoa % too.

I am getting swayed towards the higher cocoa content of Tony’s and M&S chocolate but sometimes you need that Cadbury hit. Crunchie is a decent bar as less reliant on cocoa %.

Galaxy Cookie Crumble deserves an honourable mention.

I think the humble Mars bar does take some beating though.
