There's a very large Venezuelan ex pat community in Spain. I can assure you the majority are not celebrating. At the very least they are scared for what the future holds and probably quite rightly feel that the country is about to have a pro US puppet installed in order to steal their mineral wealth. |

It does seem as though we're heading towards 'might is right' again. We could do with some collaborative international rules-based order now, but of course people have been attacking and undermining international collectives and organisations for years now. Mostly by those on the right who have held power, but there have been some useful idiots on the left too.
It's very easy to see why people like Trump don't want international organisations that may be able to hold some sway, even if they can't fully hold him to account. Unfortunately, it looks like we need to tool up and we'll need reliable partners. Ironically, the need for a European army may be growing when there was no need nor firm plans to have one previously. |  |

The level of dishonest argument being used in this thread is alarming.
Deflecting from the actual appalling conduct of the US and Trump, by claiming that people are denying that Venezuelans will be glad to see the back of Maduro.
We all recognise that. No one says otherwise. Many will celebrate that, some wont. Many who celebrate it will be also extremely concerned about becoming a US puppet state.
It doesnt make what happened right, nor give any grounds for confidence in a future which is to be based on US rule and pillaging of resources- byt Trump's own public admission. Nor address the issue of principle, which is very obviously that if we accept that large powerful nations have free reign to decide which regimes they like and to take them over, the world is heading to a very bad place indeed. | |
