So, what next....? 08:48 - Mar 27 with 4260 viewsFunge

It is inconceivable that Ashton stays - he has pissed off the supporters, the internal staff, and, by accounts, sponsors and a number of the 1st team squad - or, for brevity, absolutely everyone.

He must go; I would assume that Werhun and Nash go with him.

The radio silence from the club is, I suspect, a manifestation of 'fire-fighting' - in the first instance, McK and the players - god only knows what Mehmeti makes of all this, along with many others - not to mention the fact that the Town HR team will be in full effect, according to The Athletic/ Nick Ames.

One would presume that the Americans are trying to compile some form of contingency plan; reasonable to assume that this will take a little time.

How on earth McK keeps the squad remotely focussed throughout this is anyone's guess - another layer of irritation, on top of everything else, is Ashton's sheer fcking selfishness in, once again, making all of this about him. He has always put himself first; it seems that ITFC were a (very) useful vehicle for his ego.

At least there is (a little) time before the next game; that said, the Americans need to present something pretty bloody quickly. Is it reasonable to expect some form of communication today?

What a festering mess we have here, all as a result of this dense clown's desire to self-promote himself. That Blue Action post was remarkable - they, and we all, are ITFC, not you, Ashton, you slimy little toerag.

I agree, this whole episode is ridiculous. I can't believe people are actually calling for Ashton to resign. I'm not a Farage fan but this really isn't the end of the world and I've even seen people calling out other fans as racists etc just because they also don't see much wrong in what has happened. A few people need to get a grip of themselves and realise that this is not the end of the world. I really hope that the American owners also see the sense of all of this and get behind Ashton and the club and concentrate on the more important issue of winning a few games of football.

Our club. You’re a paying customer like the rest of us.

No I'm not. I'm a supporter of thirty plus years.

We're not customers.

That's Ashton's worldview. Not mine.

I don't see him going before the end of the season. The owners won't want a disruptie end to the season. It's worth too much money to them.

I'll repeat what I said before elsewhere.

The owners have seen at least an extra zero added to their original investment. They will give a lot of credit to Ashton for that. It's also unlikely they currently appreciate or understand the depth of feeling amongst some of the fans over this. They may wait to see if it blows over, and monitor the impact on gate receipts, shirt sales, sponsorship deals. Will take more than a handful of us ripping up season tickets for them to notice, or care, I predict.

And if town get promoted again with Ashton still in place, it will be all forgiven - from their perspective, at least, even if not from some fans.

Although looking for any positives, it’s probably the closest he’s been to Clacton for a long time!

Quite right. He’s got feck all to do with us, except for using us. We won’t be alone, he’ll be looking at other clubs too because there’s fertile ground for him amongst football fans (see FLA, the defence of him on here, etc.).

See now this is where people make things up to suit their own narrative, although you are in Swansea so may not see the local news much. Farage lives in Frinton. His other half bought a house there. He is in Clacton most weeks at least one day a week. He is well acquainted with Bob Russell(long time involvement with Col U and MP). Is often around the Colchester area. So to make that statement is incorrect.

When an MP or somebody high profile visits a club like ITFC, the club shouts it from the rooftops. They use it to highlight the Town Foundation, they talk about key local issues, and they show off our community work. It’s an 'official visit' precisely because the club is proud of it.

The club, and more pertinently Ashton, didn't mention it, promote it, or post a single photo. Why? Because they knew it was a PR disaster in the making. Farage used our dressing room as a film set for 'lols', self promotion and campaign videos.

Farage is off to the next joke on his hilarious tour, but we’re left with a club that has torched its ‘inclusive’ brand for a bit of high profile networking. No other club will be stupid enough to let this happen to them because they can see the clusterfk it leaves behind.

I have to disagree with you that Ashton's always made things about him. For all the sniggering about "the football club", so much of what he's done has been about pulling ITFC out of the coma it was in under Evans, and he's always recognised that it's been the work of a lot of different people in a lot of different areas. As Town rose back through the divisions, he generally stayed in the background and let McKenna take the plaudits. Ashton may well have been all over the local media - and rightly so, given the importance he placed on community links - but nationally his profile was quite low. He wasn't giving his opinion on everything and anything to do with the game, because his focus was on doing a good job for ITFC.

This is his first major gaffe, in my opinion, and it's fatal because it's a combination of economy with the truth and mixing with a controversial figure of major significance, who is unrelated to football, but who could have a major, detrimental effect on many people's lives. He waited a long time to blow it, but when it came, he absolutely nuked it.

I love this Rhetoric that if i don't want Mark Ashton lynched and hung up then i'm thick, stupid, daft, ... call me what you like.

Nobdoy has the right to tell Mark Ashton who he can and can't support politically and again ... the club did not publicise this Farage did like all MPs publicise everything they do.

Do i think football should mix with politics ? Absolutely not and i don't agree with it BUT i also don't think it's the huge issue it's being made out to be either

Therefore the club should have realised how Reform - or any other political party for that matter - would use the opportunity presented to them by opening the door and nipped it in the bud immediately. The fact they didn't, then doubled down by seemingly lying about it afterwards, is the issue.

He's not there most weeks, at least one day a week.

He himself has admitted not to going there frequently due to 'security concerns'. He still hasn't held one surgery with his constituency since being elected.

The same dozen or so posters on every thread are causing the outcry. If the club monitors this site, which Im sure it does,it can see that it’s just the same usernames over and over and creating new threads over and over. Politics should be nowhere near sport in my belief and this site has completely collapsed in the last few days. Some of the anger is off the scale. The bile some people have is just as dangerous as Farage/Polanski/Starmer/Badenoch.

Agreed. And it's the club who helped join the two, not the supporters.

'Politics should be nowhere near sport'

Oh right. So we probably shouldn't be endorsing a political party and allowing them to use the club's brand to shoot promotional material before lying to the supporters about it then?

He lives up the road and has been there. Two guys I know have done work on his office. Thr6 said they saw him there a few times. Maybe he doesn’t make it official or let people know he is going to be there because of security? If he just turns up, less chances of him getting the abuse ?

You do realise there are many, many ITFC fans who are not crying over all this.

Just because the usual TWTD suspects are screaming about it, threatening to never go to football again, burn down Portman Road, etc. Doesn't mean we all feel that way.
