What makes you truly happy? 13:31 - Mar 31 with 2460 viewsBlacknGoldnBlue

We live in a world where wars are breaking out, dictators trying to start new Empires! A planet that is dying, with famine and floods killing thousands a year. New strains of diseases are waiting for the right conditions to run amok and kill thousands or more. We have politicians fanning the flames of hate and division that is becoming entrenched on our high streets. WE have a football club whose fans are divided at a critical juncture in the season.

Let's try and find some positivity... what makes you truly happy? For me, walking my dogs on a crisp spring morning as the dawn chorus breaks, before the world awakes, and its a moment to realise how wonderful nature is!

Yesterday, my two little ‘uns were playing together in the garden and were giggling really loudly and that made me immensely happy.

And then a few minutes later they started to fight.

Moments of progress in my son's personal development. He's proving people wrong everyday, attending mainstream school and his achievements seem silly compared to most kids his age, but seeing him succeed and the attitude and resilience he shows is often what keeps me going when absolutely overwhelmed at the awful state of things.

Similarly, watching my partner succeed. She's been caring for sibling(s) independently since she was 16 years old and never had her own career to speak of in the decade+ she's been doing that- but with both of her siblings going to University and College in the last year or two, she's been able to invest time in herself and her own skills and recently had the opportunity to work at Pinewood Studios, which is her dream gig.

I love spending time with my Great Uncle, listening to him say the same things he's been saying ever since I can remember, I love watching the football with him, he won't be around forever and it's a privilege to have him with us.

I love my current work- speaking to actors, artists, directors, puppeteers, developers, reviewing comic books/tv shows/films and attending press events.
I presented at the bloody V&A last week - the new lease of life my new vocation has given me has been life changing and always gives me something to look forward to, even when struggling.

In no particular order:

Walking in the countryside

Seeing my kids work hard and do well at school/university

Unplanned midweek drinks with friends

Fishing trips to desolate parts of Canada

A quiet morning in the house, drinking tea and listening to Desert Island Discs

It sounds like you have so much to be grateful for in life. I'm sure there are struggles as well but its good to just concentrate on positives now and again!

- People getting their comeuppance.

- Nostalgic music.

- Silence.

- Figuring something out which has been bothering me.

- Receiving a sincere compliment.

- Realising I've made somebody else happy.

- A huge morning spliff with a cup of tea.

Get away out of that

Great thread. Lots of things really, I'm a very lucky person. I love spending time with my family and seeing how my kids are developing in to admiral young adults. Also the little things like a good sandwich, or a coffee and cigarette in the garden on a sunny morning (that probably shouldn't make me happy). Music makes me really happy, seeing new places, the beach. There's so much to love in the world.

It takes about a week.

If I fancy a little bit Sunday I usually have to start thinking about it Friday.

Great art, penguins, simple and well cooked produce, a Nunez free-kick winner curling into the top corner in the 93rd minute against Norwich, writing, the huge and meaningful outcome of the charity I am running, the human capacity to acknowledge mistakes and meaningfully apologise and improve, cycling instead of driving, travel and exploring new cities across the world (and through it new people, cultures, food etc).
