Phil managed a couple of questions from different angles, fair play. Also glad the club allowed the questions, some clubs wouldn’t, it’s a right for the press to ask what they want and they were able to.

Pretty sure it would have been Kieran’s idea to give the players the day off. Top bloke long may he remain our manager.

Yes, this in spades. Taking the players out of the firing line may well have been sensible stage management (or a lucky break), but they should have been replaced with the Chief Executive/Chairman/Ayatollah/SelfappointedKingoftheworld to answer a few choice questions. Hopefully stronger ones than the majority of today's buffet bowling. Ashton to ashton, dust to dust.

It would make sense. Ashton ain't fronting up, and could easily be on the beach. Maybe organising a five-a-side kickabout. In respect of which he's probably the manager, captain, penalty taker, rush goalie... | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Presser on 14:29 - Apr 2 by HighgateBlue | Yes all very weak lemon drink. Phil was the only one seriously probing to get anything. Asking Kieran whether he has expressed his own views I thought was an essential question given the strength of feeling among fans. And given that player harmony is squarely within Kieran's remit, proper probing on the players' reactions to it was also essential. Glad that Phil didn't let the earlier question on that suffice. That was the one that did get a little hint back to us, namely when Kieran said that he isn't here to represent all the players' views, which is about as clear a message that we were going to get that (a) the players have views, (b) some of them may well be strongly held, and (c) Kieran is well aware what they are. Kieran was never going to give much up, but it's important that he and Ashton know that it's not forgiven and forgotten yet (not that Kieran has done anything wrong, I hasten to add). |
pretty much unflappable, wouldn't want any other manager in charge for those last 8 games, such an asset. only hint of criticism was when he said that he'd never welcome anything that brings discord to the fanbase. other than that, zero backing for ashton and no condemnation either, as you'd expect from a highly competent professional

| Presser on 14:23 - Apr 2 by SitfcB | Stuart Watson and Mark Heath gave it the biggun about questioning McKenna and then didn’t bother asking anything. Appreciate that Graeme Mac asked a few about it but thought the EADT boys may have asked a couple more, particularly maybe about Ashton. |

Speaking of nobody caring, I note the mile-long queue of tabloid journos waiting to quiz McKenna about last week. Oh, wait.... P.S. Full marks to Kieran. Another exemplary presser and further proof (if it were needed) that everyone should put politics to one side and get behind him and the boys for the rest of the season. Ashton can be dealt with when the dust has settled at the end of the campaign.

I suppose one could also read between the lines of these two snippets from the EADT report. "Spoke [to Ashton] about Farage stuff 'a bit' last week" "Players spoken about it? No, not really." But McKenna and the players' job is to get promotion, and it looks like that is what they are rightly focused on. [Post edited 2 Apr 15:48]

| Presser on 16:13 - Apr 2 with 574 views | franz_tyson | So the real world and TWTD world aren't the same. The real world seems a lot more balanced and calm and we're very lucky to have a cool, focused, unflustered gent in Kieran. I know so many wanted him to throw Ashton under the bus and keep this bubbling on and on, but I think Kieran's too decent for that. And Kieran could have his own views and be a bit peeved with things, but maybe he actually likes Mark Ashton and can see the good they've achieved together. Maybe he even considers him a friend and a decent bloke who made a bit of a cock-up... as opposed to a racist, fascist-loving piece of scum. | | | |

I think the fact that Kieran flat-batted it is a surprise to no one. The guy is a model professional and a credit to the club. We are extremely lucky to have him

There has been no negativity towards the club. We all love the club. The criticism has been of Ashton, his poor judgement in rolling out the red carpet for such a toxic and divisive politician, his tacit support for Reform government by gifting 5 "Farage 10" shirts, his allowing Reform to exploit our name, ground, club badge and the reputation of our sponsors, lying to the media and the fans when concerns were initially raised, going into hiding when the truth was eventually revealed by the Athletic, and issuing a piss poor weak non apology.
