Back in for Hackney if we go up? 10:00 - Apr 12 with 4797 viewsbreezy_runner

Assuming we do go up what are folks thoughts on going back in for Hayden Hackney in summer? I know he turned us down hoping for a Prem move last summer. I know we also need to learn from lessons last time of buying top Championship players but just feel that this lad is extra special. He's literally carried Boro team this season on his own and they've fallen apart without him. I would 100% be behind getting him if hes interested.

I don't know. I take everything you say as completely legitimate but McKenna has been really clear on players wanting to be here on many occasions. Hackney was in the door, fees agreed and didn't want to come.

We bought Azor instead, and he's been a revelation for us. Difficult one, as I don't know how both fit in.

Hackney is a different type of player to Matusiwa, far more progressive on the ball. We were in for Hackney after we'd already signed Azor as well, Cajuste and Nunez were the players who came in when we couldn't get Hackney over the line.

Would take him, but think he will be sought after by established PL clubs. He was linked with Man Utd in January, so likely to have better offers than us unfortunately.

Was he in the door? I stand corrected.

Hackney is very different to Matusiwa - and would compliment each other. Hackney is good enough for the PL, and would fit into our way of playing well. I don't hold it against Hackney - only wanted to leave his boyhood club for a shot at the PL

Whether we go back for him imo will be down to a) price and b) what other options we have.

We went back for Jaden after he went to Villa instead of us so maybe the door might still be open for him

From the limited amount I've seen of Hackney, I'd day they were a pretty ideal partnership. But there might be a better, stronger, similar type of player available to us?

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Absolutely. Won't begrudge a player thinking they'll get a better offer even if it doesn't happen.

Although I think he'll probably have some better offers than us come summer.

If Carrick gets the Man Utd job there's a strong chance he'll go there

Boro drop has been since Hackney has been injured!

Definitely

He has controlled matches, created and scored goals.

Probably the best player in championship!

Could we tempt him? He would be in our 1st team.

I do have a little bit of background on this, I know someone on the staff at 'Boro. He was just about to complete the deal with us but two premier league clubs came in at the last minute, Wolves and Fulham if I recall correctly, he wanted premier league football but just ran out of time to get a deal done with one of them.

Swerved a bullet if it was Wolves.

My only reservation is that we spend all summer chasing him and he holds out for a more established Premier League club.

I'd like us to get our business done early this time around.

I reckon he will go to Leeds, much closer than Suffolk, but who knows we have a few northern lads which definitely helps

This would be my concern. When we were promoted in '24 the Euros majorly delayed the transfer dealings of most clubs. With the World Cup in the summer the same will most likely occur again. The sooner we can get business done the better. Undoubtedly Mckenna & co will be fully prepared though.

Probably going to double the price now.

I'd give him a miss. We need proven premier league players if we are going to splash the cash.

The way the contracts were drawn up, did he have a choice? I thought not.

Anyway, you’d have to be daft to turn down giving it a crack at Villa.

I hear you but we were in for Philogene who turned us down for Villa and then we went back in for him again! I also don’t think Azor was signed instead of Hackney, they’d be an ideal duo.
