| Back in for Hackney if we go up? 10:00 - Apr 12 with 4626 views | breezy_runner | Assuming we do go up what are folks thoughts on going back in for Hayden Hackney in summer? I know he turned us down hoping for a Prem move last summer. I know we also need to learn from lessons last time of buying top Championship players but just feel that this lad is extra special. He's literally carried Boro team this season on his own and they've fallen apart without him. I would 100% be behind getting him if hes interested. | | | | |

| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 15:51 - Apr 12 by Vaughan8 | Probably going to double the price now. I'd give him a miss. We need proven premier league players if we are going to splash the cash. |
Getting a proven PL player to join a club like us is difficult. We tried last time. Ashton has spoken about it. The risk of signing a four year deal with us (say), going down, having your wages halve because of the relegation clause, and then being “stuck” in the championship isn’t that appealing. Players tend to prefer a lower risk option like signing for a club that are less likely to go down. <insert Spurs joke here>

Another year gone off his contract, so I doubt the price will have gone up too much, if at all.

| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 13:13 - Apr 12 by GlasgowBlue | My only reservation is that we spend all summer chasing him and he holds out for a more established Premier League club. I'd like us to get our business done early this time around. |
Yep. Go in straight away for him and if he's hanging on for better, move on quickly. He is a very good player and I'd really like him at PR but no fannying about. Make an offer acceptable to Boro quicksmart and either he signs or we move on.

| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 17:48 - Apr 12 with 1047 views | OldFart71 | I must admit I had serious doubts about Taylor, but the has proved to be a valuable player this year given that Cajuste has been a huge flop. Funny really how so many haven't proven their worth like Akpom,Szmodics,Cajuste and young Egeli who has time on his side. We would have been untouchable had those players all been as good as we thought they would be. I know Hackney is injured, but it does make you wonder if now he regrets not coming to us. | | | |
| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 18:13 - Apr 12 with 1022 views | itfcsuth | He’s a very good footballer, but he wouldn’t be cheap, would be a £20m player minimum. Feels a little bit like going back down the Championship galactic route. There is also a part of me that thinks, you’ve made your bed, there will certainly be other options beyond Hayden Hackney in the world. | | | |

Oh I totally understand that. I'm not sure we signed too many proven premier league players did we? Phillips who hadn't played much and Ben Johnson. Not sure who else. We've tried the "sign the best championship players" approach and it failed (fairly convincingly)

| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 14:20 - Apr 12 by TracktaMan | This would be my concern. When we were promoted in '24 the Euros majorly delayed the transfer dealings of most clubs. With the World Cup in the summer the same will most likely occur again. The sooner we can get business done the better. Undoubtedly Mckenna & co will be fully prepared though. Will they be fully prepared? Can they be? Every season we say get players done early. Of course KM/herr Ashton try to do this. But not necessarily in our control when pushing for high calibre players. Hackney in fairness might buck this trend this summer. Fingers crossed. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I’m not sure it did fail. Did we really expect to stay up and turn a largely league 1 squad into premier league mainstays? I think we def bought with a view of being competitive in the championship this season whilst of course being hopeful for last season. This disappointment really is the slow start to this season.

Ben Godfrey. Though he proved to be so hopeless that you've probably forgotten he ever played for us.

I like Louza but he seems the type that would suit a more established prem team than one likely fighting to survive.

| Back in for Hackney if we go up? on 15:53 - Apr 12 by Libero | I hear you but we were in for Philogene who turned us down for Villa and then we went back in for him again! I also don’t think Azor was signed instead of Hackney, they’d be an ideal duo. |
I think Philogene had a pre-agreed contract with Villa so once they triggered their option he essentially didn’t have a choice. Re Hackney, didn’t he reject us a month before the window closed or did we nearly succeed with going back in last minute?

Some are clearly very good though? A number of PL clubs have/are looking at Hackney, can't just write off all champ players as not good enough. Look at Wharton for instance, bought from Blackburn, excellent in the PL and now in the England squad. SB

But lets say Brentford sign Hackney for example. He goes in to a squad with plenty of prem experience and you can ease him in. Same as Bournemouth did for Semenyo. Same as Bournemouth did with Alex Scott. Same as Wharton at Palace. That is when I think EFL recruitment works, when you don't have to throw them in straight away to step up instantly. We already have a squad with loads of EFL experience but very limited top flight experience. I would not be looking to add more of the same type of player that ended up with us relegated last season.

I think we will be back in for him. He's clearly someone they want and he seems to have a high ceiling and is generally regarded as the best player in the division by most the podcasts. Won't be our only midfield signing though, I think we go for him along with some others with experience alongside Matusiwa. SB

I disagree, unless we get out of the Cajuste clause we're getting pretty packed up in midfield Matusiwa +1 starting Cajuste, Nunez and Taylor already overdoing it on the bench. Unfortunately can't see Neil being offered a contract, he's been good for the championship but not what we need to step up. Matusiwa offers the experienced head, would even consider going in for Jordan James as a cheaper option than Hackney (and played with Matusiwa at Rennes last season)

Think the turnover will be more than expected - I think it'll be Matusiwa and a new midfield essentially. Let's get promoted and then it'll be exciting to see what happens. SB

Assuming we go up and assuming Azor stays first choice then we really could do with a bit of prem experience in there. I appreciate that didn’t work last time with Philips. We will need prem experience through the spine.

I do like Hackney he is evidently a super footballer and one more than capable of playing in the Premier League but I think he probably suits a premier league team that is a bit further ahead than we will be. We desperately need some physicality in this team. We should be looking at bringing 3 in imo.

Nunez is seen as a 10, Cajuste cant even make the bench and Taylor although a good servant (and very impressive on Saturday) I think is one we will be happy to move on.

Possibly Utd if Carrick gets the job full time West Ham back in if he stays up Newcastle look like they need to sell and talk of some squad upheaval. If Tonali goes would you look at Hackney as an option? Think he's been linked with Spurs, even if they come down they'll probably blow a lot of other clubs out of the water financially.
