I'm probably in the minority 11:02 - Apr 21 with 2407 viewshype313

But I don't care if we go up or not.

The PL just isn't fun across the board, yes, giving the odd team a bloody nose is fun for an afternoon, but constantly going to games, not wondering if we get a result, wondering what the score will be, became tiresome.

We're never going to get CL, at best you might get a Europa Conference run against some minnow from Estonia, only to then have that derail your league position.

I get it's important for the financial stability of the club, but from a footballing and fan perspective, I'm non plussed by promotion.

The championship is better, for sure. But we have to make the prem to make the championship fun.

Not going up, losing players, tighter finances...

The championship isn't fun if you're 14th.

The Championship *used* to be better. It used to be full of teams going toe-to-toe with each other. But now every game is cat-and-mouse and how can the team with lesser resources spoil the game and con the officials enough to tip the scales in their favour.

And the prem isn't like this?

You're right. League One is the real OG.

Of course you’re judging the PL of the league 1 squad with a few additions.

Did you enjoy 2005-2019 in the champ, was it fun then?

Wait until the parachute money runs out and all those 2024 contracts start to look a little scary and we realize that a lot of the players are worth way less them we paid for them. The Cobbold gets put on hold and we have 22k for Preston at home in 2029.

Fun times!

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Guthrum and Bellevue_Blue have it right imo.

It's defeatist to say we can't survive, let alone compete, in the PL. OK, it may take another 5 years, and even involve a repeat of relegation (although I believe and hope we can at least survive after the next promotion). Ultimately we have the backing and ambition to become established.

Clubs do implode also. OK, maybe it's unlikely with ManC, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. But last season ManU nearly did. Wolves have, and Spurs are on the verge. I'm less convinced than others that either of these will bounce right back up.

Over the years there with be berths available in the PL, and there is no reason we can't secure one of those in the coming years. I'd like to see European football at PR again, and believe it's possible before I die. It's 25 years since our last appearance, but I hope to once again experience the games I attended 45+ years ago. That's the aspiration. Maybe I don't have enough years left, but I can but hope ...

Do people find the championship fun ? Loads of anti football teams parking the bus and lying on the floor for 70 mins trying to get a point.

The prem wasn't fun last season because we werent very good. If we actually give KM a team that could compete I'm sure we would enjoy it a lot more.

Ask Sunderland or Leeds fans.

KM gave himself these last 2 squads and at some cost too., but what's he done with them at PL and Championship level?

I understand the sentiment to some extent, but the likely alternative is you get stuck in Championship mid-table with the likes of Preston, Stoke, and Bristol City. It is almost impossible to get to some sort of middle ground where you have exciting, attacking football and wins lots of games but fail to get promoted every season.

Yes, I really, really like the Championship. Even the sh1t games. It's up to us to use our extra resources to beat teams which park the bus instead of moaning. And next season, we might be the bus parking team if we get promoted.

46 games as well. 8 less games in the PL because it's all about the big teams who play in Europe and we'd be just fodder waiting around for these teams to beat us.

Its going to happen at some point, so why don't we try and bring the Super League proposal back? Get rid of the big 6-8 clubs ( and Spurs) and let play each other all around Europe and Saudi in a European Super League.... and leave us to enjoy domestic football. No VAR, no international breaks, no Papa John's... expand and even play 60 league games.

I hardly know any of the players as they're imports and not from our academies, the managers / coaches are usually foreign and the owners could be American or Saudi.... sounds a bit Faragey, but the PL is getting less British and teams like Liverpool or Man City might as well be based in another part of the world. Their grounds just happen to be in England. I'm just getting less attached to the game and ,at least, in the Championship it still feels a bit real and traditional.

I'm in total agreement. The Championship is not what it used to be. 75% of teams want to keep the ball out of play and slow the game down and focus on set-plays. The entertaining, end-to-end nature of our 2-2 game with Boro used to be the norm but it's now very much an outlier.

Absolutely. The champ is a dull league these days. Most games I watch are shockingly dull, ours included.

Even last season in the Prem where we were relegated early I still enjoyed the games more.

The ceiling is very high for us. If we get people in that know what they’re doing with the money there is absolutely no reason we can’t be competing at the levels of Fulham etc a season or two.

It’s loser mentality to romanticize about the Champ, especially when we won’t be able to compete in it properly in a few years anyway. Looking at our recruitment we will be in trouble if we don’t go up this season or next. So many of these lot have not increased in value, many would have gone the other way.. It will be an entire new project with a new manager and nowhere near the same resources.

Well whoever was responsible the squad was a joke for that league.

Lets go up and build a squad with some midfielders who are actually capable of running and I'm sure it will be more enjoyable

Nope, but I didn't enjoy the PL either.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

If your wish is for the premier league to be a more fair and competitive league and not the ruinous cesspit it is now then I’m with you all the way. But that’s not happening any time soon - or ever - so here we are. Wanting to get up to a league that will likely spit us out again.

Did you enjoy finishing 15th under Evans with games played in a half empty stadium?

And yet here we are, saying 'if we really build, we can join a league where our biggest ambition is finishing 15th every year!'

I suppose the stadium would be full, so that's good, I suppose. We can start a weekly thread on here about tourists and happy clappers and all will be well.

Why would our ambition be to finish 15th every year? I suspect the owners want a lot more than that. Why can’t we build like a Brentford or Brighton? Why can’t - in 2/3 years time - we be dreaming of European away days like Brighton had a couple years back?

Nah, you’re alright, let’s all dream of staying in a league where we’ll be playing Lincoln on a Tuesday night at home - woohooo go blues.

Indeed. You should always strive to be the best. It's hard, but that's the point. You keep striving even if you might never get there.

Same here. It's not football, it's a 9 month sports-themed TV reality show with nothing to look forward to at the end of it. The worst of it, for me at least, is how pathetic the cheating is - anyone remember the state of Cucurella when we played Chelsea, for example? And VAR sucking the last vestiges of in-the-moment joy from it, too.

I rarely watch MOTD and last season was no different. It just means nothing to me, a bit like a rallycross enthusiast not liking F1 I suppose.

None of which is to say that I don't want to see us at the top table and, God forbid, competing like, say Brighton. But if/when that happens, it won't be half as exciting as down in the Championship, which is frustrating.

I would like to see us competing fully in the PL, but last season we only competed with Southampton and Leicester, to avoid last place. Against the rest we were just participants. Maybe McKenna would do better next time, or maybe not.

Never forget that on 7th. April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed.

Is anybody saying that we shouldn't strive to be the best?

Not really. Many are just saying we don't like the reward for achieving that strive.

The PL is, for many, a crap reward. Like winning on Bullseye.

That's assuming the reward is just being in the Prem.
We should be setting our sights higher than that, as I'm sure the owners are.
If you don't want to be in the Prem, then yes, you're saying we shouldn't strive to be the best. Being in the Prem and flourishing, as a few lesser clubs have, is much better than winning on Bullseye!
The crap reward you talk of is based on having another season like last year. If that's the height of people's ambitions then no, that's not striving to be the best.

I'm the same. I HATED last season. Maybe it would feel different if we did a Sunderland or Leeds. We got the recruitment so, so wrong, but maybe "player dealing" will bring a profit on some of those overall?

The way the players celebrated the Norwich win (group photo in front of the fans especially) make me think that we'd all but achieved it too. So why was I upset that we faltered against Portsmouth if I don't want promotion?

So, I do want promotion, but let's do it right this time please.
