And people are voting in the fash up and down the country. What a mess we are in.

Another slap in the face to all of those who fought nazism.

That patently complete rubbish and pretty insulting to Mullers. Sad to see.

I think it's dangerous when we label Reform and reform voters as "fascist". They're racist, right wing and utterly bonkers on many points, but they're not what any political scientist would consider fascist.

The reason I think this is because, when someone like Rupert Lowe and Restore come along - who are definitely tending more in that direction - we've already normalised the idea.

I remember Cameron being casually described as a fascist, then Bojo, now Nigel, and because it's become a catch all slur aimed at the right I think it means that we aren't nearly as outraged as we ought to be when an actual political of an actual party comes out and says he wants the mass deportation of legal citizens, because we've already convinced ourselves that this is what other have said.

They’ve literally promised camps in areas where their enemies live. They’re happy to play on nationalism and right wing violence. It’s more dangerous to ignore what they are or appease them.

Especially when we’ve got such dangerous, offensive and anti British views and individuals right here in this thread.

Technically they’re more closely aligned with quasi-fascism, which borrows from the classic fascists without replicating every element of fascism. That’s largely because we’re now operating under very different economic and geo-political conditions and quasi-fascists are often in opposition and can’t own shape their environment in the way the likes of Hitler and Mussolini could when in power

So they borrow things from fascism like:
- intense, negative nationalism ☑️
- ‘othering’ a minority group, often immigrants, as the blame for people’s woes ☑️
- promoting a leadership cult ☑️
- promote authoritarian conservative principles ☑️
- attack on norms and institutions critical to a healthy democracy ☑️
[Post edited 8 May 21:15]

Spot on. This is why I consistently refer to them as quasi-fascists, there’s always some boot-licking apologist who wants to moralise on the validity of calling Reform/Trump/et al, fascist, although never seemingly on the fascist element of their behaviour itself…

Why do they always run from debate though? I would love to understand, quite genuinely, why people that vote Reform do so, what they offer that chimes with them (notwithstanding that these are local elections), in a normal civil way. But never, not once, do you ever get any kind of response. It’s just one word answers if anything at all.

People apparently feel so strongly about something but never seem to articulate what it is or why.

I think we all know the answer, we’re just not supposed to say it- it’s because they’re devastatingly thick, ignorant or a beautiful rancid blend of the two.

Anti-expert, anti-education, anti-culture (unless it’s ENGURLISHH) total empty vessels who have been completely duped by their Daddy Farage.

Excellent. So you have a direct link.
I live in a county that's been run by Reform for a couple of years and all I'm seeing is flags, closure of social care, council tax rises, buying expensive JCB kit that they've been told doesn't work but the party's had a £200k donation from Bamford and councillors shouting at journalists when challenged.

With all that info literally on the doorstep, what are their community priorities - what are they actually doing in your area?

Yep, and happy to use ableist language openly etc.

Let alone the “patriotic history” nonsense they want to impose - wonder when we get the new textbooks and expulsion of certain staff etc

Yeup, this is why I can't be civil anymore with these scumbags- both the politicians and the pathetic excuse for human beings who are voting it in.

This is quasi-fascism and the thickos are clapping joyfully as it is welcomed in.
I hope they don'y have friends and family that are disabled, gay, trans or of any ethnic minority or religion other than WYYT BRII'ISH CHRISYTURN- otherwise they've just done them a massive diservice and caused them active harm.

There’s a lot of talk about how Reform will implode and how they will damage these communities- I suspect their supporters are more and more MAGA like and eventually will splinter off, becoming more extreme as we are seeing now in America.

They don’t have an original thought between them.

I think your general point is still pertinent, though.

It's money earmarked for community developments, and that could have been use so much more productively.

We've got a decent amount of CIL sitting in the coffers at Zx Town Council - we're currently looking at putting it towards an outdoor gym, a pump track, and a skate park in a local green space.

You know, stuff that helps the community, rather than just shows off how racist we are.

Its great having all these proposed community assets, as long as you don't fall into a pot hole getting to said asset's.

All the talk of the ‘implosion’ relies on people being logical and intelligent, which frankly, if they had the capacity to be- they wouldn’t be voting for Reform.

I agree with you- there’s all kinds of crazy zealots out there already who have been indoctrinated to think that ‘small boats’ of asylum seekers, disabled people, trans people, etc- are the cause of all of the issues in our lives.
