If you had the power what would you change in sport? 09:15 - May 23 with 944 viewsKeno

Serious or otherwise …

European football comps to go back to champions only in ‘champions league’
Boxing to be united under one organisation so there is one world heavy weight champ
Teams who play in green and yellow to have automatic points deduction
F1 and Tour de France have a single race

What else you got

I’d do away with the throw in. If the ball goes out of play then the ball should be kicked from where it went out, not thrown. Only keepers should be using their hands.

It would be a start if the ball was actually thrown in from where it went out… rather than halfway along the pitch from that point. Some refs make them move back, others let it go.

As long as the kick has to taken within say 5ecs. The last thing we want is a delay while everyone moves forward into the oppositions penalty area.

This would also mean you couldn’t be offside from a kick in. Would also change offside rule and cut out all these tedious VAR checks after goals scored following a free kick.

I always find it amusing when the ref makes them go back to where it went out, and then when he turns his head the player moves forward another few yards.

Anyone who bangs on about only the champions being allowed in to the CL, or one match live per week or bangs on about when football was proper has to attend matches in dinosaur costumes.

Or.

Time wasting for keepers for holding onto the ball too long etc is penalised with a hockey style short corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Players can take ‘kick ins’ to themselves like in kids football.

Automatic sending off for holding people at corners, whether or not the whistle has gone.

I'm sure that would put a stop to it.

Absolutely. Bring back the Cup Winners' Cup too, and the remaining highest finishing teams go into the UEFA Cup (Europa League). Scrap the Conference League.

I agree. Football is so much better when teams wear their proper colours, with the proper badge on. Players should all use their surnames on shirts, not first names, and no silly squad numbers like 99.

The Champions League was only named that well after it was opened up to the top 4-6. So it was stupid from the outset.

For football I would also say better distribution of funds between clubs, scrapping VAR, and controlling pitch-side advertising so it isn't too intrusive.

You'd essentially be winning corners in the other of the half pitch, the game would turn into a battle of set-pieces (more than it already has done)

If a player or spectator throws a second ball on to cause a stop in play, the team in possession can use both balls until they lose possession of either.

The return of engines in F1.

Clubs that use the term 'matchday experience' in public to be docked three points.

The return of Superstars on TV.

The Champions League was only named that well after it was opened up to the top 4-6. So it was stupid from the outset.

And it's only a league-format tournament during the "group stages".

After that, it's a knock-out cup competition - so FFS let's call it a cup, not a league. As hoppy pointed out a couple of days ago, a good name would be The European Cup.

If you hit post / bar and it goes behind, it's a corner not a goal kick.

If a player gets a yellow card for time wasting, then 5 minutes added to stoppage time, but only IF at the 90 minute mark the offended manager requests it to the 4th official. This is cumulative, so 2x yellows for time wasting = 10 mins etc.

Automatic yellow for any player who touches the ball after a free kick has been given against them (unless referee requests it / indicates they can, and with a common-sense tolerance). It's asinine seeing players intentionally dribble a ball away from where a free kick is awarded

5/10/15 yellow cards = a ban, but 5x appearances with no YC sees one struck off (down to a count no lower than zero)

The "manager challenge" approach to VAR. Check what you want, but 2x failed challenges and you lose the right to challenge again that match.

VAR has a maximum of 60 seconds to review a decision. If it's not clear and obvious in that time that an error was made, then the on field decision stands.

when a player is fouled and receives treatment on the pitch, the player who committed the foul should also have to go of the pitch for a short period..why should the offending team have a numerical advantage even if only for a short period?

3rd placed teams to go up automatically. Scrap the playoffs.

I also fully agree with banning moving pitchside adverts.

Ban all gambling ads from grounds and shirts - thousands of kids are being exposed/subliminally influenced by these every match day.

Have fixtures set in stone… by all means have a brief window after the fixtures are released for Sky to take their pick from, giving an even coverage to each team, but once that window is closed, fixtures can’t then be moved, with the exception for extreme weather.

Give the ref one of those laser pens to point on the line where he wants throw taken and if its thrown from anywhere else its obviously foul throw👍

Anyone who goes down clutching their faces looking for invisible blood or rolls around or puts their hand up on the air waving for medical attention or beats the grass in pain who then jumps up and joins in gets a lifetime ban.

No-one needs to ' earn' more than a couple of million a year just for playing.

Call out chucking in cricket

Ban rugby players mullets and ' bro' mustaches
