Like on the climate change thread, where he poked for two pages asking for a peer-reviewed study and then when one was provided he never posted again on the thread again.
He also knows there is already a thread on this that kicked off and I suspect is hoping for more of the same.

It’s a horrible case and the police have to be held accountable for their failures. Police heavy-handedness and stupidity is nothing new though, so I’m surprised you think this is a significant event. There have been plenty of examples of police failures contributing to or failing to prevent deaths recently, police themselves undertaking attacks and a general rise in authoritarian policing. So I doubt this case will make much difference, but hope you’re right that it does. |  |

the killer wasn't legally carrying a sword, he was carrying an illegal knife which he used to murder someone. he received a life sentence.
the police made the wrong assumptions, as they have on many, many occasions. they are now under investigation, which hasn't always been the case.

I do find it a difficult situation especially for the family. The victim was handcuffed, but the perpetrator wasn't - totally wrong. Henry Nowak was asking for help but received none.
Although it sounds like the perpetrators family are scum. It was the brother who phoned the police and falsely claimed it was a racist attack by a white person and his mother hid the knife from the police, although I think she's in court for that next week.

I can’t begin to imagine how the family must feel knowing how their lad died (and being able to watch it too, although I’m not sure I could mange that if I was in their shoes).
Banning knives? Maybe, but if people want to cause trouble they’ll just use a kitchen knife or some other sort of weapon. The knife’s just the tool. I’d have thought the only way to reduce knife crime is to change the mindsets of people prepared to use them, somehow. | |

The correct initial response is that this is a tragedy and our thoughts are with The Nowak family as to whether it is pivotal, time will tell.
The reading by Mark Nowak outside the court was extremely measured and one can only imagine his inner turmoil along with all of the family.
Very disappointed that so far we have not seen The Chief Constable of Hampshire and delegated media duties to The Assistant Chief Constable.
We will see the court proceedings re the mother of the perpetrator very soon and hope justice is seen to be done.

Yep, totally awful case - police will be dragged over the coals and rightly so.
Poor kid, poor family - and they'll now see their son used as a political pawn over it.
And, 100% knifes like this should be banned if they are being carried publicly with no reason than just 'religion'. Think this was a different knife though |  |
