McKenna early favourite for the Fulham job with the bookies 14:09 - Jun 2 with 7629 viewsitfcjoe

If someone in the PL stumps up the cash this summer he’ll go for me; but his great contract has also made him harder to get out and less worthwhile to do so.

Just think Fulham are a few years ahead of us; but his contract is a millstone round his neck with regards to going elsewhere - think there are certain clubs we’d roll over a little bit for if KMc showed a strong desire to go, but Fulham won’t be one of them

One advantage of Fulham, or any other London club for that matter, is its proximity to Suffolk. I get the impression family McKenna is fairly settled and a London job wouldn't necessarily require uprooting them. However, aside from football considerations, I wonder if the shenanigans with Ashton/ Farage, might affect his decision. McKenna keeps his powder fairy dry, certainly publicly, but I can't help feel that episode might have increased the chance of his exit.

Managers need to move if they are ambitious.

He was keen to join Utd or Chelsea, any new club is likely to result in a family move.

Kids are fairly easy to move when young.

Probably.

No, it's linked to our divisional status.

Interesting. The rumoured 8 million quid could prove quite the stumbling block then.

I do find it odd how clubs seem to be apprehensive about spending significant sums on Managers, when they are happy to drop huge sums on Players.

I used to think that way too, but it's not like they can sell on the asset if they don't perform.

That £8m is straight down the drain if McKenna doesn't hit the ground running. Plus, they'd have to pay off his Fulham contract too. If a club hires Kieran and it goes wrong, they are probably down the thick end of £15m-£18m.

Is that a healthy position to be in (from an ITFC view point) though?
Having a manager know we'll give him what he wants, assuming you mean wages.

McKenna doesn't particularly strike me as someone who is in this game purely for financial gains. For him it'll be about what he goes on to win and achieve in the game. Earning £100k a week here for the next 25 years but being a yoyo club/manager isn't his aim (I speculate of course, he might well be happy with that)

Fulham are that bracket or two above us, they won't demand instant success IMO, would be a very smart stepping stone in his career, unfortunately

I wasn't very clear. I actually meant give him the players he wants. I think his money is pretty good already isn't it?

I Googled the top fees paid and £8 million would be the 4th highest which seems crazy in comparison to player fees.

You are right though. The pay offs have to be considered and some of those figures are eye watering. Mourinho alone has collected over a 100 million euros in fees after being sacked!

Hopefully he will see they don’t have much ambition, the reason for why Silva has probably left.

Yeah, he's had itchy feet for the last 2 years over their lack of ambition. Benfica happens to be his boyhood club too, so it's a win-win for him.

Rosenior played for Fulham so I imagine he’ll throwing his hat in the ring.

I can see them going for Ange Postecoglou. He is also a CAA Base client (as is Kieran), Frank has a close relationship with the Khans, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is one of his clients.

If Kieran goes, Ange would be my choice.

If Fulham want KMc, their lawyers will argue that we aren't Premier League until after the PL AGM in early June (don't know the exact date, but it hasn't happened yet).

Oh it's fecking Trimboli that's feeding this to the likes of Alex Crook at talkSPORT, no doubt about it.

He might see it differently but barring a change in tact for their owners they’ll probably have the smallest transfer budget in the league with lots of key players to replace. It’s the worst job out of the established clubs right now and I think there’s a decent chance of them doing a Wolves.

They could argue what they like - the contract will be between ITFC & McKenna as to when this release clause kicks in.

If it is indeed when Town are legally confirmed as PL then fair enough for Fulham. Just means they need to do it quick if they are interested, that actually benefits us too imo.

I think the most important thing for us is for anything to be decided early.

Agreed, they're established with a premier squad, but if he were to go there, he is working with the owner's son, who is his director of football. Part of the reason Silva has left is frustration around the set-up and lack of investment to kick on. Big risk. I'd have them as likely relegation candidates, with us.

The thing with the Fulham job, they've more or less hit their ceiling. They're destined for mid table at best. Still a few years ahead of where we are but surely not attractive enough to McK. He has his sights on one of the big clubs.

Not sure about that. What would stop them doing what Palace have done in the last 2 years?

I wouldn't say Fulham has much proximity to Suffolk.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I don't want KM to leave anyway but after reading the thread yesterday about who should replace him it makes me even more scared.

I have a feeling I know who Ashton would want to replace him as well and it worries me.
