Get it done!

A few other clubs interested, so just get this one over the line.

Leaves us with a cool £205m for the rest of the squad.

RIP Sir Bobby

Has anyone even suggested we're in the running for him?

Would be a real statement too and definitely keep McKenna here.

Get it done.

Looks a good prospect. Only concern might be that he hasn't scored many goals, which we might be needing from an AM.

I'm not one to agree with Wallers generally. But this is the sort of ambition we need if we are serious about surviving.
I think there is a domino effect - get one ambitious signing over the line, that makes the second easier, then the third etc. Players and agents will be quick to see the true ambition from the signings. No way could Elliott be the first, and maybe he wouldn't entertain the idea. But Get that first ambitious signing in that makes people sit up and think "Wow, Ipswich are serious".

He won’t choose us if other established PL sides are interested, like Nelson and Broja didn’t two years ago.

Obviously before FFP, but that's exactly what Man City did when they signed Robinho in 2008.

Will he be moving now that Slot has gone - he seems like the kind of player that would suit Iraolo . . . it's all just paper talk.

Like others have suggested, I think it's highly unlikely he'd be interested at this stage, but he is exactly the kind of player we need to be aspiring to.

I actually think he'll stay at Liverpool now, Slot didn't fancy him but they had a rough season in attack, and with Salah gone, Isak off the boil and Ekitike long term injured, I reckon there is still an opportunity for him to get some game time.

I think it highly unlikely that a player of his talent and standing (2025 Under 21 Euro Champ player of the tournament, 150 apps for Liverpool) would join us, but I would like us to make a pitch for him. Sign for say £25/£30m, with a £45/50m release clause so he knows if he does well then a move to a bigger club is not prohibitive. Build our team around him and hope he has a Morgan Gibbs-White/Morgan Rogers type development/influence.

That price seems steep, Villa could have bought him for £35m but decided he wasn't worth it, so hopefully after last season we could get him for 20-25 with plenty of add ons

The other one who plays in similar positions is Ethan Nwaneri, who's currently training with England. He has a failed loan to Marseille last season so you'd think Arsenal would let him leave again

We don't have £235m, I think that would be the Premier League and parachute payment income over the next three years. Also, much of our money will go on eye watering wages as well as transfer fees.

Yes, he’s usually as mad as a box of frogs over a gas stove, but on this case I think would be in step with many fans .

Whether we spend quite that much or it’s on that player is obviously up for debate, but I fully agree with the need to show ambition. The domino effect sounds logical too. I’d like to see some and it can only help. I’ll be a bit deflated if we go for another Championship Best XI.

And those 2 points are only 2 of the flaws. The player transfer fee is amortised over the length of the contract, likely to be only £8-10m in the first year.

Finally, what we receive from PL money does not translate 1:1 into what we can spend. SCR drives the cap, and sustainability tests now drive what you can realistically spend. PL money is a parameter of those calculations, but only one of many.

We can sign world class talent for much less, or a talented player, who’s never done it at this level, and hasn’t played for a year.

I’d equally expect he go’s somewhere and rips it up, or his career never ever takes off at this level and he ends up in the EFL.., both equally possible, so maybe not a great use of resources.

He’s a Smith Rowe type to me, had the ability, but if you can’t prove to Emry you’re worth that level, and he’s seen you all day every day for a year, I’d suggest we let it go.

He’s got the English, top club tax. Not good value, we need better quality for less, and they exist, they’re everywhere, all over the world. See Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Leeds, Sunderland.

For me he’d be the new JET potentially. Ability isn’t the issue, psychometrics are.
