How many World Cups have you watched on 13:03 - Jun 6 by Trequartista
If I recall correctly, you didn't buy them as sticker packs, you got a certain amount of sheets of them for every £ you spent at the co-op. As time went on, they were just handing them out willy-nilly.

Yes! I eventually finished my album as the lady at the checkout gave me two full boxes towards the end of the promotion. TWTD!

66 my first , lucky me , several i would prefer to forget since than but i remain hopeful.
I was '66 too. I remember being at school when they were talking about it. In my naivity said "Why cant England will win it". I was laughed at.
Dad worked in a shop. He had arranged a special dispensation to have a 2 hour lunch break just when the final was on. I can see him now cycling furiously to get home in time. We watched the game together on the black and white TV.
But with the score at 2-1 the Germans equalised before 90 minutes. His heart sank and I can see him now cycling furiously to get back to work as extra time kicked off.

Was a young teen when I heard the last minute of the 1966 final on the tranny slung across my cycle handlebars while pootling along some deserted minor lane in rural France on my day off as an au pair. Not into football at all and hearing the excited commentator shouting “England have won the World Cup”, I just thought “what in”?!
Only got interested 8 years later when having lived in Ipswich to do a 2 year college course, I started following Town. Every wc from then on I guess, tho can’t remember anything of any of them apart from Italia ‘90.
1966 was my first, remember thinking England would win it every time. But after that it has been a real tale of woe. I still think 1970 was the best tournament, we should have made the final that year, but would have been unlikely to beat Brazil. The only other time I thought we were going to win was 1990 . This year, I think we may do it. We'll see.

Mick Mills (capt), Mariner, Butcher, Brazil, Wark & Burley all in the 82 squads, you dont remember that ?
though its purely a function of your age, so yes I do remember the 78 World cup because I was alive at that point, my brother even had a Gauchito tshirt, even if I probably didnt watch any of the games as England werent involved, prior world cups I wasnt around, so dont remember them :)
but I do remember watching West Germany v France in 82 for sure, and that flippin awful tackle, that didnt even get a yellow card, refs were rubbish back then too

'86. Fell in love with football thanks to that world cup. Remember being utterly mesmerised by Diego Maradona. He was like a completely different species of human. Didn't realise it was handball until after the game with slow-mo close-ups. Commentators didn't see it.
Cried with Gazza in 1990. Sir Bobby channelled the nation's attention & affection. Then English football & Premier League took off after that. Like the enlightenment after the dark ages.

Not sure if I watched any of the 1962 finals, but one of my fondest 1966 memories is watching the final sitting on a crate of beer in the airmen's mess of RAF Gutersloh, a former Luftwaffe base in West Germany, where I was on summer camp with 188 Ipswich Squadron ATC.
No idea, as I know OP has mentioned ‘watched’ but does listened count?... as back then amongst us proletariat TV’s were not ubiquitous.
Back in ’66 it was either Radio or standing outside a TV Rental shop (after being kicked out from viewing inside for too long) I remember the wonderful North Korean victory over the Italians 1-0
Mostly the remembrance of watching some of the final in Wakefield outside a TV rental shop and then rushing to catch a train back to Suffolk. Once onboard looking for a coach where everyone was gathered around transistor radio. Wonderful scenes.

Watched 66 cup final on black and white tv at home...and everyone since
Vaguely recall the 1962 WC when we got beaten by Brazil. Definitely remember 1966 and all that. Therefore that makes 16 I think. Favourite was 1974 and the brilliant Dutch with Cruyff and total football. So wanted them to win as did all my mates.

The Brazilian side in 82 will live with me forever and it was truly the end for the original beautiful game when they lost, but Italy in the end deserved it. Was dosing o levels during that tournament and used to run home after exams to watch their matches.

This will be my seventh.
2002 is the first one I remember, I was 10.
Same for me, just about to turn 11 in 2002. I remember 1998 was on - my dad bought me a FourFourTwo special, I filled in a wall chart, and I collected the coins from Sainsburys, but I don't remember watching any of the games (and Euro 2000 completely passed me by).

First I remember was 1954, could not believe that Hungary lost in the final after hammering us twice. What a team. 1958 in Sweden Pele came to the fore, the first final I watched. 1962 was the Ken Aston Chile match, we did well. And so on. Was at Wembley for the Poland match in 1973, how their right back managed to clear Kevin Hectors header from under the bar was more significant than Cloughies favourite goalkeeper.
WE HAVE A WINNER.

I have no recollection of ‘78 at all even though my football awareness would have been poked presumably by living opposite Roger Osborne and all the blue and white balloons adorning his little semidetached. I only recall ‘82 through Naranjito and THAT incident between Battiston and Schumacher and also confusion to why England went out without losing. 1986 though … I was totally immersed even with the time difference…was in a London hotel the night of THAT match watching on a little black and white TV. 1990 was 1990 nothing else needed saying. 94 was odd England not being there and the time difference… was very indifferent towards it…’98 was a good’un.. 2002 I was backpacking in Asia so kickoffs were fine time wise and exotic and varied viewing of the matches.2006 I recall little due to my daughter being born during the tournament.. 2010 was very forgettable with my dad being diagnosed with a terminal illness..2014 was fun and I enjoyed 2018 in Peru with Peru taking part…2022 kind of really enjoyed the pre Christmas gift of the World Cup… now 2026
Italia 90 was my first, so 9. I remember doing stuff at primary school for 86 (I've got a vague memory of being assigned Canada for some task) but don't remember actually watching any of it. Maybe because of the timings, especially as neither of my parents were particularly fussed about football.
