| How many World Cups have you watched on 11:29 - Jun 6 with 1665 views | patrickswell | I was 6 when the 82 World Cup happened. My abiding memory of it was that we had some students living with us when it started. I came home from school to find them watching one of the matches. I sat on the floor of the lounge with a copy of Look-In magazine and a glass of orange squash. I was reading the magazine and went to reach for my drink just at the point that a goal was scored. I’m presuming that it may have been an England match because one of the students let out an almighty roar of celebration, which caused me to knock my drink all over my magazine in surprise! I was fuming! [Post edited 6 Jun 11:29]

Still annoyed that I missed the first half of the Argentina game because I didn't finish my dinner, that dinner being liver and bacon. What kind of parent punishes their child for not eating liver! My mum did an excellent job with 4 of us overall, but that was a black mark on her record. [Post edited 6 Jun 11:47]

| How many World Cups have you watched on 11:47 - Jun 6 with 1596 views | burnbudgiesburn | Running home from junior school to catch the afternoon kick offs in 1982 is a fond memory as a young kid. It was special to have a whole live football match on TV since there were hardly any! I remember more about that tournament yet could tell you nothing from anything 1994 onwards. They all blend into one. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Was 3 weeks old when the 66 final took place and was always a bit odd having that there as a piece of relatively recent history but not actually be competing in world cups. Still laughing at Scotland made up for it for a while

12, first memory is Cubillas tearing Scotland apart and Ally McLeod with his head in his hands.

| How many World Cups have you watched on 12:27 - Jun 6 with 1389 views | gainsboroughblue | 1982 was the first one I remember and certainly watched a lot of games. One of them must have been fairly late as I recall being 'allowed' to stay up for it. Think it was the Spain game where we ultimately went out (despite not losing a game). Although I vividly recall being at the ITFC cup win parade in '78, I remember nothing of the World Cup that followed. 1986 had some funny kick off times. Sneakily turned on my bedroom portable TV on mute to watch us draw against Morocco at what must have been around midnight. Butch Wilkins was sent off and Bryan Robson knackered his shoulder and given we had already lost against Portugal, it looked a bit of a forlorn cause. Given those two examples, it feels weird to think that by the time the next one came, I was watching Platt's winner v Belgium in Italia 90 in the Cock and Pye as a (nearly) adult. Funnily enough, the most fun I can remember watching the World Cup was USA '94 when we didn't even qualify but Ireland did. That may be age related though. | |

| How many World Cups have you watched on 12:33 - Jun 6 with 1343 views | bluelagos | 78 is the first one I remember. The Dutch midfielders seemingly scoring worldies for fun, Scotland getting battered and Kempes, Houseman and Luque winning it for Argentina. We had upgraded to a colour TV - not sure if it was for the footie, but it looked much better than it did in Black and White. | |

| How many World Cups have you watched on 12:38 - Jun 6 with 1335 views | oldburian | First I remember was 1954, could not believe that Hungary lost in the final after hammering us twice. What a team. 1958 in Sweden Pele came to the fore, the first final I watched. 1962 was the Ken Aston Chile match, we did well. And so on. Was at Wembley for the Poland match in 1973, how their right back managed to clear Kevin Hectors header from under the bar was more significant than Cloughies favourite goalkeeper. | | | |

I saw the 1954 final on a very grany TV. Black and white obviously. Was at Wembley for the 3rd place final in 1966. Huge crowd support for Portugal, and the sense of anticipation for the final on the Saturday.
| How many World Cups have you watched on 13:00 - Jun 6 with 1278 views | Illinoisblue | First i recall was 82 mostly because of the Co-Op’s World Cup sticker book. Except the cards weren’t stickers and you had to tape or glue them into the album. | |

If I recall correctly, you didn't buy them as sticker packs, you got a certain amount of sheets of them for every £ you spent at the co-op. As time went on, they were just handing them out willy-nilly. [Post edited 6 Jun 13:04]
