How likely do we think this is? Would be an absolutely phenomenal piece of business if true. 33 games for Juventus, plus Champions League football is really excellent.

Cost Juventus £20m, tbh I can't really see us spending £30m on one player at this point in our journey and it'll likely cost that to get him.

Unless he is particularly keen to work with Gary O'Neil again I can't see it

I can easily. We were happy to pay a Championship record for Egeli, so £30M is nothing in the PL for proven quality.

One of the types of signings we are going to need

If we could get him. Pope and wilson. For that attracts a raft of other players

Imo we cant have our first signing being someone from the champ. Needs that ambition tag.

Keep forgetting Egeli plays for us 🤣

Mad to think we can now spend 18m on teenager who may or may not turn out to be any good.

Agreed I can imagine us spending some big money that's not necessarily the issue, but I can't see us getting Kelly ahead of some other clubs if he is being shopped/is available

Far better that than the dross McCarthy was scraping through to find anything remotely decent. Who can forget Douglas being presented as the attacking midfielder we were crying out for. I wept when I saw him stumbling about. With laughter. All the mobility of a postbox.

Mad to see the football club as it is now - improving and approaching next season in the Premier League.

If we are not prepared to pay £30 M for the right players, we are going to find it very difficult.

However, I am not sure how many £30 M players we will be able to attract.

That is the issue, finding players who are good enough who we can sign ahead of other options they will have.

Much as a lot is made of Sunderland's transfer dealings, they paid over £30 M for Diarra, around £25 M for Adingra, nearly that for Le Fée, and signed 5 more for between £15-20 M as well as 3 more for between £10-15 M. That's as well as 5 others and 2 loan signings.

Can we take a reality check here. I'd suggest it's unlikely that a regular for Juventus would want to move to a relegation fight anywhere else even the Prem, think Phil has already said something similar.

More chance of Matthew Kelly. Although I'm not sure Lloyd is that good never got much game time at Newcastle.

I know nothing about the lad, but if he’s any good he sounds like exactly the kind of higher quite signing we need to get this time.

Last time we cherry picked the best of the championship. This time we need players who one way or another are proven prem quality.

What an opportunity for GON to build his own team! He must rubbing his hands.

I guess the only way to to demonstrate that we don’t intend to be a club fighting relegation. Having a clear vision and ambitious but realistic transfer strategy should be enough.

I dont see a few £30m players being cash prohibitive but whether players in that fee bracket want to come at this stage is another matter. There also the likelihood that we are competing with the next segment in the PL at that fee level.

Dang, 3 downvotes for simply stating I didn't think we will be spending £30m at this stage of our progression.

Tough crowd I guess!

We were something like £23k p/w away from what Brentford were paying last time. They were paying £54k vs £33k on average.

I think we'll spend big (£120m-£150m) to give it a good go but I just don't see us paying the type of wages that align to £30m+ transfer fees. Could be wrong but I think that type of transfer generally happens after you stay up for a year or so.

If we’re not prepared to pay £30m, we’re in trouble. That’s the baseline for Premier League ready players these days. We need to pay that three or four times this summer.

Alternatively we go again with the £15m Championship super team approach again - but we’ve seen that didn’t work.

Sunderland had just 1 signing at £30m, and Leeds did not spend even £20m on one player last season.

Sunderland spent £152m and Leeds £100m in total. Sunderland however, had sales of £52m including Jobe Bellingham to Dortmund to offset that spend.

I don't think £30m is anywhere near baseline tbh. Though I agree with not repeating the champ superteam approach.

You're likely to know more about him than me, although having played 33 times for Juventus, I'd hope he'd be better than not that good.

I think he’s unlikely to leave Juventus for town. I don’t think us paying £30m for one player is unrealistic. We paid £8-10 million for some dross championship players last time around so if we are serious about staying in the PL for more than one season then we will have to spend more on one player but maybe we won’t buy 10-12 new players as suggested, just 5/6 quality players which equals £120-£150m. If we are going to get 10-12 new players then I’m expecting a big clear out of current squad to make way. £30m for a quality striker in the current market is cheap for example. Hoping to hear in the next few days who will be leaving as I think it will show how serious we are about staying in the PL. OK GON says some of the players deserve the chance to be in the PL but let’s not wear rose tinted glasses, we have 5 maybe 6 who might cut it at PL level. The rest aren’t good enough and we are entering a new era under GON. Last time no one expected us to stay up, GON is a bit more bullish about our survival but he is going to need a better squad to do that. Simon Jordan said on MA’s interview with TalkSport after promotion, that you have to weigh up loyalty vs the need to stay in the PL.

Have a Juventus fan working with me who constantly says how rubbish he is.

Though I'm sure their standards are a lot higher than ours.

Why would he go from there to here though.

Tall order, but it is good we are in the mix and making offers on quality players of this pedigree. Positive signs the recruitment team are pointing their searches n the right areas.

Watch us now sign a championship player...
