He talks really well, I remember he did so on MNF a couple of times as well. Seems a very likeable manager, you’d imagine he’d connect well with a group of players.

A good look into his psychology. Comes across in a not dissimilar way to McKenna - thoughtful, analytical, obsessive. Will be interesting to hear his tactical thoughts once the games start coming, are we going to get the same level of detail we have been used to?
Also noteworthy (for me, at least) that he went into management after having his playing career ended prematurely by injury (albeit not so early as Kieran).

Retired at 36 didn’t he? I wouldn’t say thats particularly premature.
Agree with your overall point though, he talks a much better game than I expected.
My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.
Yeah don’t like him much. Not my kind of guy. You just know the people you’d like to have a pint with and he isn’t one. But doesn’t matter as long as he gets results.

O'Neil stated in the interview that he'd intended to carry on playing, dropping down the divisions as necessary. However a major injury put a sudden stop to that.
So not massively premature, but playing days still curtailed somewhat.
Every answer started with "Yeah, no." Or a few times "No, yeah." And three was free, and everything was everyfing. But I'm a snob and a pedant. And we didn't employ him for his eloquence or diction. Overall he came across OK I thought. Time to get behind him.

I’m reserving judgement until we’re about 10 games / 3 months in or so. Hopefully we’ll be seeing some progression by then. It doesn’t have to be big, as long as we’re broadly competitive and showing that we’re not going to be the league’s whipping boys.
