| Sunderland 20:39 - Aug 10 with 3563 views | quad | Are we confident of beating them? Or is it going to be another case of waiting for new players to have time to gel? Given our difficult start, very important we get at least something out of this I think. | | | | |
| Sunderland on 20:42 - Aug 10 with 2901 views | SuperKieranMcKenna | I don’t think the ‘time to gel’ flies, we need to hit the ground running. Plenty of teams have bought a new squad in the PL and pushed on. But I’m a Town fan…I’m not confident we’ll get much! | | | |
| Sunderland on 20:44 - Aug 10 with 2880 views | Cheltenham_Blue | I think if you go into any game confident of beating anyone you’ll be in for a long and difficult season. Just hope for 5 points from our first 5 and 17th with 39 points | |

| Sunderland on 20:54 - Aug 10 with 2780 views | tonybied | I'm hoping for a repeat of 3 years ago. Opening day of the season against Sunderland, who had a good previous season in the division above us. Under the cosh for 30 minutes or so, but good defending, and good luck on our side means we don't concede. Then we grow into the match and catch them on the break, and end up winning 2-1. This gives a great hit of confidence, and we're off to a great start for the season! | | | |

I'm optimistic Sunderland will have 2nd season syndrome. Shame we don't play them later in the season when they have mid week Europa league games. Will Lukic and Florentino both start do we think?
| Sunderland on 22:04 - Aug 10 with 2246 views | Guthrum | Depends a bit on what happens over the next week and a bit. However, am now reasonably confident of giving them a good game. | |

| Sunderland on 22:09 - Aug 10 with 2210 views | SuffolkPunchFC | It would be foolish to be confident imo. However, I’m becoming increasingly convinced we can be competitive. | | | |
| Sunderland on 22:33 - Aug 10 with 2115 views | GavTWTD | No. We're some distance away and players to come in after the match. We're still in the learning phase, sunderland aren't. A draw would be a good result. | |

Agree with this, we can't be accepting draws against Sunderland as a good result. It's acceptable at best. Draws at home v Fulham and Villa last time were seen as good results but we should have won both. Still waiting to cringe in the build up to the game when our 9 successive PL home defeats is mentioned!
| Sunderland on 22:51 - Aug 10 with 1987 views | RetroBlue | Don't ill be " confident" of beating many teams this season. Its going to be backs to the wall stuff most games I think... | |

| Sunderland on 07:12 - Aug 11 with 1512 views | cressi | Last time up was a real kick in the plums. One home win all season I do believe we have bought more oven ready premier league players this season. We need more in over the next 3 weeks to be competitive and give ourselves a reasonable chance. But it can be achieved. | | | |
| Sunderland on 07:18 - Aug 11 with 1469 views | dirtyboy | Let’s be under no illusion, this Sunderland team haven’t had too many changes and did remarkably well last season. We will be up against it and a win would be a huge result. | | | |

A lot of people tipping Sunderland to struggle, they seem a bit of a streaky team so if we can beat them and they have a bad start they may well be involved near the bottom. They have some great players and it will be a tough game but you'd count this in the bracket of must win home games for me if we are to stay up. It's only game 1 I know but I have a feeling whoever wins it will impact their season going forward.

In an alternative universe, Jobe Bellingham scores that sitter 15 minutes in and we are sat here today debating whether finishing 8th and making the playoffs for the first time in 13 years is "success".

Plenty of teams who buy a new squad in the PL fail too. I don’t think ‘time to gel’ is a choice. It’s human beings we are talking about and the majority of teams, in any walk of life, take time to form. It’s why evolution is usually better than revolution when it comes to this, in my view. Can we afford the time? Sadly not. But that’s the risk and if the club fail, it won’t be for the want of trying. Saturday week? A point and a competitive performance would be good. More than that, brilliant. You never know.

Yep, take 3 points from this match, start the end of Sunderland's Premier League honeymoon and bring them into the group of relegation candidates.

Suspect better players gel quicker Very impressed with Emersonn`s pass to Leif, no need to look, know he would be booming down the wing and he has only been here 5 minutes.
| Sunderland on 08:14 - Aug 11 with 1204 views | Rimsy | I'm confident. Last time we bought a team of championship players in the hope they would step up and the majority didn't. This time we're going to be packed with pl ready players. | |

Who will their starting creative midfielder be? How well have any of the above done in the Premier League before? Those five questions mean that I am hopeful, but not yet confident!
