Gus Hamer - decent signing for Cov 23:18 - Aug 11 with 3058 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Wonder if he will be a starter for them?

Wouldn’t have minded seeing him there tbh. Also possibly not space for him and Nunez in the squad.

Not so sure. He’s been around a long time and Premier League clubs are not falling over each other to sign him.

I think his star has shone to be honest.

Would have taken him 2 years ago but not now. Pushing 30 and absolutely does not look after himself in a professional way. Enjoys the bars.

That said he is an excellent player and if they can get some Hamer moments from him off the bench it could work out. Certainly one for the fans though as they love him!

Feels like someone we would have signed two years ago. And there lies the issue for Coventry.

Couple of years ago, not now. We have and will get better.

Capable of producing magic on the pitch if given time - whether he’ll be afforded that time in the PL is highly doubtful.

The bloke is a complete pudding these days. Not physically up to it at PL level.

He might be a starter for them but this is everything we should not be doing.

Clearly a good player, 16 goal involvements in the Champ two years ago, 18 last season but that is essentially Jack Clarke and he's 4 years younger.

We needed real real quality to add to the likes of Clarke and if we get Enciso over the line, he's twice the player of Hamer.

I thought he looked like he had put on weight and bar flashes was a shadow of his former self.

I think he might play that Messi-like role where he's allowed an almost free role with fit runners around him.

Although nowhere on the level of Messi.

And also, these days against top opposition, they'll just run off him.

I'd say it's a pretty poor signing. They love him as he was an ex-player but I can't see him tearing up the Premiership

Sometimes I think about the frothing lunatics I’ve put on ignore, who will have kept replying to me again and again, but I don’t even realise they exist.

Well their forum is certainly raving about him, much better than Enciso apparently, deluded or what.

Having watched him think he’ll have the odd good game but over the course of the season will struggle to made an impact. Coventry fans might be in for a rude awakening over the level required to be competitive.

To be fair they have also thrown serious money at a young Ghana international with serious pedigree in the middle of the park, we didn't do any of that.

Hamer is a cheap buy for them but not a player I'd want to see here at this stage.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Will be their Nunez equivalent. Can start or finish in a couple of different positions and adds depth above the likes of Eccles and a couple of others.

I saw quite a lot of Cov before Hamer left, they probably missed him more than Gyokeres in terms of what they contributed overall.
