| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? 10:12 - Aug 28 with 4442 views | CopfordBlue | I don’t mean a free transfer from the League of Ireland that didn’t cut it. I’m talking about a player with some hype around them and that you were really excited when they signed that ended up being a let down? Lots to choose from but I’ll go for Adrian Paz (although that was after I’d got over the disappointment of it not being Batistuta as initially reported). For the first few games he got a free pass as he was settling in but it then became increasingly clear he either just wasn’t that good or at least he wasn’t right for us. He had a few good moments but not enough. Thankfully Taricco who came with him more than made up for it eventually. | |

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 14:35 - Aug 28 by J2BLUE | Was going to say Civelli but just beaten to it. This thread has reminded me of some absolute classic TWTDisms over the years where a small but substantial percentage of the board has become convinced that some random player was going to be the next big thing. Jonathan Parr being "an upgrade on Tyrone Mings" was a personal favourite. Although he never signed, Curtis "Like Sh1ttu with the footwork of JET" Tilt is one I will still be laughing about in 30 years. Jonathan Douglas going from being a great free agent signing who was exactly what we needed to looking like he didn't even know he was on a football pitch was a good one. Scott Fraser and Kyle Edwards another two honourable mentions for the sheer amount of hype they generated. |
The Fraser hype though was based on his previous season, wasn't he something like highest goal contributions or assists that season. Edwards was more because he had flair. Throw a few step overs into a run and fans will love you

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 16:44 - Aug 28 with 420 views | yorkshire | Stuart Slater is the right answer for those of us that remember. He was signed at a time when clubs didn’t bring in 11 new players each season and that spending that sort of money on one player was a big thing Sergi Baltacha was probably another that we never really saw his true potential given the hoopla around his arrival Paz certainly didn’t take to English football but then Tarricco took his time before he did. Another that we only saw glimpses of was Vlado Bozinovsk. I always felt sorry for Le Pen and Civelli as they both got bad injuries before they could do anything Certainly Chopra, McLean, Ebanks-Blake and Parkin never lived up to expectations - as did Bullard when he signed permanently. Emir Huws was another that just never got going at Ipswich even though you could see there was a player in there. Same for Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajauste | | | |

Bullard wins. Totally different player after he signed permanently.

Ellis Harrison (see axeldahl)

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 14:07 - Aug 28 by Re_User | The usual suspects have already been mentioned - Paul Taylor, Sam Parkin, Ulrich Le Pen, etc. I’ll go for Luciano Civelli, signed for £1m, sounded like the next big thing, spends 2 years on the treatment table with a knee injury, before being released, having only made 17 appearances. Considering the hype that came with him, could JET be an option too? |
Beat me to it. Civelli and Priskin for me. Both felt like potential game changers. Alan Judge as a wildcard.

I’m convinced you are better than Jonathan Douglas too! Signed as a box to box midfielder it turned out that tottering out of the centre circle was a bridge too far most of the time. I thought MM was scraping the Evans barrel at the time, but it was then I realised we’d actually rolled the barrel aside for what was underneath it. Kalvin Phillips? He’d been poor the previous season and with wheeling him in, it was more hope than expectation with a healthy slice of desperation chucked in. So I wasn’t disappointed in the way I was saying with Slater.

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 19:16 - Aug 28 with 246 views | GeoffSentence | Nathan Ellington. His time at Wigan was magnificent, his time afterwards had got progressively worse but I forgot all that and was looking forward to the Wigan player. By the time we got him he was hopeless, lacked energy, couldn't score and I am not sure he even wanted to play football anymore. Just cack. | |

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 13:09 - Aug 28 by King_of_Portman_Rd | Not dreadful given the outlay but the hype/anticipation around Balint Bajner signing for him to be absolute toilet. My shout would be Tommy Oar. Signed by McCarthy to add that bit of quality to an efficient, workmanlike competitive team, but other than a decent showing Vs Man United in the league cup i dobt remember any of his 9 (nine) appearances for us before he swiftly made his exit. |
The poor lad was homesick though, even if it turned out later that was homesick for Cyprus. Must have had a holiday home out there or something.

A really good shout that. He'd been good for Reading, played loads of games when Reading were actually quite good for 5 mins, had been captain. Even at 34 he seemed like a solid, battle hardened, experienced reader of the game that would add leadership to our backline. I genuinely thought that we'd made a sensible just what we need signing. He was shot, we got 8 games. Alex Henshall, from Man City's youth team, "exciting" winger, played about a dozen times

| Most disappointed you’ve ever been with a player we signed? on 19:50 - Aug 28 with 211 views | ITFCson | There was a player who looked somewhat like Keiron Dyer - at least to the point that during a pre season friendly the crowd chanted 'Keiron, Keiron, Keiron' at him. Maybe about 15 years ago - but I cannot recall his name, kudos to anyone that can from the above information. I would estimate about 15 years ago or thereabouts. | | | |

I was! I since remembered the name and found nothing on Wiki so guess he didn’t go on to have much of a career. Well done though mate!
