Their line up looks pretty tasty for the Champ doesn't it. Engels is a player.

Broady and big Keef on the bench for Wrexham. Boo.

West Ham and Wolves both have very good squads for the Championship. That doesn't guarantee anything as both Leeds and Southampton have shown in recent years and plenty of other clubs before that.

Really difficult to see anybody besides West Ham and Wolves for top two.

Boro may push them I guess but the difference in quality is stark.

Back to the standard of relegated team as 23/24 - finishing above Leeds and Southampton was a hell of an achievement.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about a PL2 lately, would make sense to have say a 16 team PL and a PL2 including the top Championship sides.

So important we got back up at the first attempt given the strength of who came down.

If the worst was to happen this season, it cannot be as tough next season.

Some reality check for Wrexham, ridiculously good breakaway goal.

60k at WHU tonight. Can't help but feel a lot of them are gloryhunters though. Where were they when spammers were getting beaten every game last season.... walking out at half time, booing etc.... they sense they'll " piss the league" this season and have bought ST 's in their droves. All seems a bit fickle to me. But then im no west ham fan....

Reality is Wrexham have been passing the ball to West Ham all game. As good as West Ham have been in attack, Wrexham have played like they're colour blind.

Fans like winning football, not much deeper than that really. A bar chart of Town crowds over the decades always makes for intersting viewing. Some very significant dips. Promotion year of 91-92 and I think our average home crowd was only 14k.

Doubt there’s even that much there going by the empty seats you could see during the first half.

How can they be classed as glory hunters when their attendances have actually dropped?

Sold nearly 55,000 ST’s I think.

I wonder how long Parkinson has this season. Always felt his over simplistic approach would in the end come up short in the Championship

Not really any different to when we went down to League One and started winning again.

It’s not going to be a Disney ending for Parkinson is it - 1 win in 7, and looking much worse than last season.

He only managed the back to back to back due to better resources and players in those leagues. This was always going to be the first league where they can’t rely on superiority - you need an elite manager too.

Our first game in the shiny new FA premier league - Attendance 16,818 !!

Edit - Was a bit sobering reading the teams whilst getting the attendance. 4 of the Villa team no longer with us.

Yeah it wasn’t the same back then. After moving away from Ipswich first in 1989 I didn’t have much trouble getting tickets to anything until KM’s successes. The PL under Lyall was fine. The Play Offs under Burley were fine, the PL season following promotion I could get tickets to the games I wanted. Football audiences have risen in general and we’ve been more popular even in the Championship under KM than I can ever remember. And of course PL away games now are particularly difficult. Not impossible, but a lot harder than they were. No points bollox back then. It’s not that long ago (less than 10 years) we were getting just a few hundreds over this way at Swansea and Cardiff.

Was 26k the last game at home to Brighton before it became all seater - glad to have been at that one as it was the last time the ground felt like old Portman Road with the cage between supporters in the north.

So 10k down on that and only 20k v Spuds & Liverpool. Then down to a paltry 13k for Wimbledon a few weeks later. And these attendances were during a reasonable start as well.

I guess attendances didn't really start to climb until the 2000's - to put things in perspective 1991-2 championship winning season there were just 16k at Newcastle.

Yeah it’s fascinating how crowds across the board were so relatively low, and it seemed to take Euro 96 to reignite things . And from there it just snowballed
