The message was good and significantly different from what Trump is saying. The issue is if you believe a word he says.

That would be good. I'm not a fan but credit where credit is due.

Not a lot of competition in that category. A video of a cat chasing its tail would be a clearer and more inspiring message than most of Johnson's public pronouncements.

Therein lies the problem. Do you believe the serial liar: the person who's lied to his family, his employer and the whole of the nation?

Rhetorical question obviously.

It’s several days late, insincere and delivered by a bloke with a history of using racist language. Apart from that, it was brilliant.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

On the face of it, he got the tone right. But I have a bit of an issue with a PM who's overseen ~60,000 deaths through a widely criticised response, now hinting you shouldn't protest against institutional racism because Covid might get out of control. Seems like that horse has bolted, especially a couple of weeks after directly (and indirectly via Cummings) giving people the green light to effectively do what they want.

5/10 for me, as the tone was good and there were some good points. But he lacked self-awareness (empty words from our most divisive government in years). Also failed to properly recognise and condemn our role in making racism such a potent force, by focussing on and condemning a largely insignificant act of vandalism. Being as worried about what happened to the statue rather than acting to address the racism says a lot imo.

5/10 is fair he's been dishing out plenty of 1s and 2s recently. Makes fair points about the vandals and thugs. I still believe he won't see out his term in government. He's the worst prime minister ever in my opinion.

How many of the British general public actually believe or act on anything he or any member of his Govt. say or do any more?

No-one I know. His credibility is zero, and his Govt.'s very little better.

To be fair, and believe me I can't stand this Government, I think that's fast becoming true of politicians in general.

I wonder if trust in MP's has ever been lower, if Boris told me the Sky was blue I'd not consider it even worth thinking about, he's about as likely to be lying as telling me the truth. If Starmer told me tha same thing, I'd be slightly more convinced but wouldn't believe him until I'd checked for myself.

We're in a very sad state in this country politically, and it just seems to keep on plumbing deeper depths.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

My tory voting parents think that Boris is struggling and would much rather see JRM in the hot seat.

This was announced to me on the same day that they went shopping at Home Bargains and complained that all "the foreigners" weren't obeying social distancing whilst everyone else was but then got told off by a complete stranger for standing in the aisle having a chat with a friend that they hadn't seen since the lockdown started.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

There's plenty out there in Facebook-land who are lapping his every word up, because they can't been seen to have to backtrack on supporting him having supported him over Brexit.

Indeed.

Does anyone still remember Theresa May's list of burning injustices, number two of which was ethnic minorities being treated worse by the justice system. She might have been well intentioned but her party was never going to let her sort them out, and they didn't.

I'm not sure if Boris Johnson is well intentioned or not, but given some of his previous statements relating to race I suspect not, not really, less so than Theresa May and still leading the same awful collection of people.

Nothing will change.

On a side note ...

We really need to stop judging politicians (or voting for them for that matter) on what they say or indeed how they say it. That really is a limited amount of the eventual job they're there to do. But we seem to spend over 90% of our time and effort on judging their "performance" as if they're actors.

If we judged politicians and parties by their record in government or by their policies in opposition then we'd be in a much better position. I suspect the news would be a lot less superficial too.

Yes, I think there is an important messaging aspect to the current coronavirus crisis but here they've ballsed it up repeatedly.
