Nearest we've come is Bontcho, who featured in the semi in '94.

Lot of guys I worked with took the piss out of me for supporting Bulgaria, purely on the basis of Bontcho. Took a few quid off several of them betting(mainly out of youthful bravado) that they'd go further than some of their picks.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

In 2006, Shaka Hislop won a gold Chaconia Medal. The Chaconia Medal is the second highest state decoration of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Established in 1969, the medal honours long and meritorious service to promote national welfare or community spirit. It is awarded in three classes: gold, silver and bronze.[1] The medal may only be awarded to ten individuals annually.

Presumably everyone knew that already?

We've had Wilson (two of them); Moore; Hurst and Hunt (two of them). Not sure that they were coterminous with the famous winning team though. Budgies had the undeniable, original Martin Peters (R.I.P.) who, though dubbed by Ron Greenwood as "10 years ahead of his time" was only one year ahead of his time by the time Norwich had him. Bontcho might have won it, but for the fact that he played for Bulgaria. The great Kevin Beattie might have helped England to win it in 1978, but for the fact that they weren't actually there.

Let's just celebrate that we've had the only world cup winning manager and the best other WC manager, SBR.
No other English club comes anywhere close.

I learnt something from a wiki search.
PRP didn't win a World Cup winners medal with Germany 'cos he's not German.
Scottish apparently, which is rather baffling as I thought all scots spoke in an indecipherable mumble.

Sylvain Legwinski was invited to a training camp for the French squad in the build up to the 1998 World Cup, but didn't make the final cut.

Frederic Veseli was Switzerland captain when they won it at youth level, and we’ve had a few others like Callum Connolly who have done that - but not at senior level

Chelsea sort of do it the other way around to us.

But it’s easier to have winners amongst your alumni if you hire them after they have won it and average about 3 managers per year. Even Geoff Hurst had a turn managing them....

I seem to remember back when we were linked to Batistuta that we were also linked with signing Oscar Ruggeri. Had we pulled off the latter signing we would have been signing a World Cup winner.

There have only ever been 21 World Cup finals - the first 3-4 of which nobody much entered, including the Home Nations. We are only talking about 450 or so players ever playing in a final, and only 250 winning one. Remember that substitutes were a later invention, restricting how many players could have been involved. Most of those who were involved would not have played outside their own countries. It's a fair bet, if anyone could be bothered to research it, that there are several Premiership clubs who have also never had a player win a world cup.

Indeed, quite a rare thing really

I'm sure it's slightly more common for teams who tend to have players from Germany, Italy or Brazil
