Charlie Brown has signed permanently for MK Dons ... 10:05 - Jan 13 with 4166 views | SomethingBlue | Yet to do it in senior football but it's very difficult at Chelsea, of all clubs, and especially as a striker. He was belting them in past Europe's best teams for fun at youth CL level. Good environment for him to do well at MK, I think it might go well for him there.

Charlie Brown has signed permanently for MK Dons ... on 10:31 - Jan 13 with 3251 views | Radlett_blue | He's 21 & needs to be making his mark somewhere if he's going to have a pro playing career. Easy to see why these youngsters (and their parents) have their heads turned by big clubs, but it rarely works out. We'll never know if he'd have been better off staying at Town. I hadn't realised he's Zak Brown's brother.

As the OP says, he was not about to break through at Chelsea. At least now he's Freida up to make his mark on the game.

Professionally he probably would have been better off staying here, financially he was better off taking the Chelsea deal.

Not necessarily, he’s failed to breakthrough at Chelsea and landed in League One. Had he done the same here non league would probably be awaiting Of course he may have established himself and gone onto bigger things but that’s hardly a certainty - and he may well still do so from MK Dons Statistically chances of making it as a professional are much higher from an academy like Chelsea’s, than Ipswich

I doubt it, in order to be in a better position he'd have needed to be playing regularly here or have signed for a better team.....chances are he'd have gone the same way Morris, or Folami have gone who were well ahead of him in the pecking order

Lol - how many ex-Chelsea academy products do you think there are playing league football, compared to Ipswich?

it's pure conjuncture in all honesty, neither of us could know how it would plan out, I don't know if professionally it was the right decision, but clearly when you hear stories of 16yr olds getting £20k a week then you can see why he left financially.

Come on, graduates from Chelsea's academy playing professional football must outnumber ours quite considerably, surely? Even if you're only counting academy products Chelsea still own they've got 7 in their own first team squad and 21 they've got out playing football on loan either in English league football or in a top flight European league. You could include every single ITFC academy graduate currently playing league football and I doubt you get to as many as 28.

Chelsea have a larger academy than us but how many more players do you think that actually is, given we field teams at all age levels etc? The number of ex-Chelsea academy players playing in the football league absolutely dwarfs ours, let alone worldwide Been rather busy today but there have been a few articles highlighting this point - moving to a club like Chelsea certainly isn’t a ticket to making it but the fall is much slower and smaller than staying at a smaller club like us. If I get time I’ll dig out a couple of links [Post edited 13 Jan 2021 16:01]
