"Q: You’ve obviously got your playing principles and philosophy this year — the possession approach centred around the same system every week. Will you keep sticking to what you’ve been trying to do?
A: I learned my lesson about five, six years ago just trying to change systems left, right and centre. It never got me anywhere and I’ll never do that again. I spoke to loads of managers. They asked me ‘why do you keep changing the system?’ and I said ‘I’m just trying to get a win’. They told me ‘you just confuse people’ and they were 100% right. And I'm talking about top managers. I’ll never make that mistake again.
We have our own beliefs in how we want to play. I’ll never make that mistake again of just trying to win at all costs. Yes, you want to win, but my job is also to try and help players become better. I won’t change.
Q: You did change systems a lot last season though didn’t you Paul? So you’ve decided to move on from that?
A: Yeah...The guys coming back from injuries will give us that help. I think that’s important."

For the last question he's clearly been to the Tory school of question answering.
SB
Another indication of attendance of that school would be when 'the guys coming back from injuries' include:
1. Those who have been asked if they feel better yet, but haven't as yet replied, or their reply is in the post. 2. Former players in their seventies who have had haemorrhoid operations and can now, theoretically, sit on the bench again. 3. Kane Vincent, Kane Vincent-Young and Kane Young as three different people.

I do sometimes wonder if he thinks we can't remember that he's been in charge here for 2 years and we have forgotten everything that's transpired during that 2 years.

Lambert when he arrived:
Lambert now:
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I could have sworn he tried changing it around last year guess I was wrong.

We utilised 4 or 5 different systems and about 25 unique starting XIs last season. I'm not sure how he thinks he can pretend that didn't happen. I'm glad Stuart Watson pulled him up on it.
Last season has absolutely disappeared into the memory hole, everyone at the club just pretends it never happened. It's part of why the gap between what they say and what the supporters think is so massive.
It is true he mucked about with seasons too much last season but now he's gone the other way
A bit like McCarthy and his 442, he rarely deviated from that and actually, we rarely had an answer to teams who packed the midfield and simply outnumber us in there
Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

the trouble this season, much like last, is that we look incoherent and disjointed. If anything our defensive play is worse, more chaotic, less able to cope with small, individual errors.
Evidently it wasn't the changes in system that was causing that.

I learned my lesson about five, six years ago....*
*Apart from the 2019/20 season where I forgot all about it and changed the system and players every other week
Even in 2018/19 we utilised 4-4-2, 4-3-3, and the midfield diamond. Can't remember if we went with 3 at the back as well or if that was purely last season.
The thing is, we've been no better now he's stopped pissing about with formations and line ups. It turns out he's just fooking useless.

Yep, that's about the size of it.
I still regularly find myself in utter bewilderment as to how any manager could fail quite so spectacularly with this squad of players in the 3rd Division.
You would actually have to self-sabotage to do any worse.

He doesn't seem to understand that there's a middle ground, quite a large one in fact, between chopping and changing every week and never changing the formation whatsoever.
Either that or he's just bullsh!tting.
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Why change a losing system? If you had a system that works stick with it, if you have a system which brings nothing to the table, either results or entertainment value, why would you not seek a better system which suits the players you have at your disposal? I don't mean change the system every week, I'm not advocating hoof ball but surely you should know your best team, the natural position of your players and formulate a way of playing that utilises those strengths. Do you have to utilise a "system" which is derived from somebody else's playbook? Are these set in stone?

I think that's just it. I don't doubt he might know a thing or 2 about football, he can seemingly spot a player and I'll give him credit for that, I think he's generally bought and sold well. I just think he's desperately lacking in managerial ability. Man management, motivation, organisation. He's not bright, that much is obvious, and he's doesn't seem massively motivated. Just floating along in this state of under achievement with an owner who lacks the b0llocks to put it right.
