That got me big time. I dont think I've ever been do desperate for a footballer to be Successful! He is a natural hero and leader and still only 23 years old FFS! So much more to come from him and I hope he smashes it next season and then fires us to success at the world cup.

Just wish he told Southgate that he wasnt confident or even when it didnt feel right. Just send it down the middle.

Such a bloody shame for the lad. Good news for him and the others.. plenty of opportunities to overcome last night. Many of our greats have missed pens and gone onto score them in the future.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Some great stuff coming out from the lads today - well done to them all. And maybe, just maybe, the anti-knee crowd will finally start to get the message?

Also glad the government are bringing forward the social media bill but all too little, too late.

I used to live in Withington and not too far from Wythenshawe and they’re rough areas. Seeing his mural vandalised today did make me wonder if the culprit would be lucky to get arrested, because there will be people happy to do much worse.

What a tragedy reading that post though. How tired must these lads be of knowing the emojis and bile are coming. No matter how high they rise, how kind they are. It’s always gonna come and be there for them to read.

Am I right in thinking Toto got similar a couple of seasons back? You hope change is coming quickly and fans will not feel awkward about fighting it these days. I hope Rashford and his teammates can focus on the love they’ve had too.

I hate that young men have to come out and say sorry for missing a pen.
and that they knew the aftermath

He’s tried to sit the keeper down and roll it in the corner and missed by 6 inches. It happens

Had it rolled into that corner of the net or post and in its claimed as a cool calm penalty.

These are wonderful words from an exceptional young man, thank you for sharing.

I feel the need to ask though, how do you square your position on the booing of national anthems and your posting and clear abhorrence at the racism suffered by those three lads today?
For me, they’re part of a picture of intolerance and lack of respect for others, albeit on a spectrum of it. Do you see it differently? This may have been asked today and I’ve missed it so apologies if I’m repeating something. I’m genuinely trying to understand.

Has anyone read it and can give an idea on age groups? Is it a primary level book?

Great, cheers. Excellent idea. I'll sponsor a couple for my old primary in that case.

This is such a likeable group of footballers, in large part because they are so much more than just footballers, young men who understand that they can use their position for the betterment of others and the country.

How many peeople were involved in defacing his mural (a couple?) compared to the 100s involved in leaving their supportive messages...

A lovely reminder than the dickheads are very much in the minority.

I think being down right racist and pantomime booing of a national anthem are certainly two different things!

The booing of an anthem is just part and parcel of football, ours gets boo’ed whenever we play away, I don’t boo the opposition anthem myself and in my opinion the boo’ing isn’t out of hate for that country, it’s on par with booing the opposition team when it’s read out.

"Ours gets booed whenever we play away"

You sound like a 5 year old trying to justify a childish response. And it's not even true. Have been to many away games and not heard our anthem booed.

You mean "It wasn't me booing the anthem, it was someone near me"? ;-)

It’s a fascinating take. For many, many people the booing of a national anthem isn’t pantomime, it’s a slight on their nation and it’s certainly an embarrassment to me when it’s effectively done on my behalf. It’s so far removed from booing a team sheet it’s untrue. People die defending their nation, the equivalence simply isn’t there.

Racists need justification and the oxygen that they’re ‘safe’ in order to come out of the woodwork. For me, disrespecting other nations and their traditions provides some of that environment. In short, actions no matter how pantomime have consequences.

Could well be. My family members were in the Lidgate/Wickhambrook area in the latter half of the 18th century.

Do sometimes wonder if TWTD should have a genealogy corner, tho that would probably make it too easy to work out people's real identities.
