Is it now legal for me to have a crossbow built in to my handlebars to deal with winkers who've just passed me with less than a foot to spare?

What haens if a vehicle hits one of these idiots? When I was young, you could get "done" for not having lights on your bike. Seems that no-one cares now. Edit. very hard to get "done" for things like this when there are so few police to enforce it.

The lower level of street lighting makes these idiots much more difficult to spot now too.

Can we have a law preventing the morons diving up the inside, when there is not enough room, at the traffic lights? My wing mirror wants to know.
New road laws from this weekend on 20:15 - Jan 24 with 2105 views | Swansea_Blue | The pedestrian right of way on a side road is an accident waiting to happen. Happened to me tonight with a car stopping just after the turn in, leaving my arse hanging out into the main road. There was a crossing on the junction too, the lazy twots. The rest seems to make sense and are mostly clarifications rather than changes. It’ll help get rid of myths hopefully, like people saying cyclists have to cycle in single file.

May I ask from a cyclist's point of view, how long is acceptable to expect vehicles to wait behind on a narrow road? For example, a single track lane with a car behind. I used to cycle a lot when I was young, (before I could drive there wasn't much choice to be fair!), and wouldn't expect, say, for a motor to sit behind me for two miles until I reached the next junction and would pull over at the first reasonable opportunity. That's not to suggest I would want to be hounded by the vehicle either, but I do think there's a limit where common sense and basic manners should prevail over who has what rights.

It would be polite to tuck in when you get the chance. Even tractors do that. Why not bikes? It is also objecitonable to ride down the middle in order to dictate to an experienced and safe driver, when YOU think it is acceptable for him to pass....

Torn on the second point as we all think we're good drivers. I mean, I really am but not everyone is. I guess if you're a cyclist and you're sick of people risking your well-being by squeezing past at inappropriate points then you eventually learn to put your own protection first.

Would love to know how anyone is supposed to know you are an experienced and safe driver whilst out on their bike ? In my experience on uk rides you will get 1-2 crazy drivers overtaking in dangerous places on every single ride. In my experience the safe option is to block that happening as I have no idea if the person behind is a loon or not until it’s too late.

I don't think it's that bad - it's just like approaching a pelican crossing - you just have to keep an eye out as to whether it looks like anyone is going to cross. If anything, it's easier as you're slowing down to turn anyway. I think once people have got their head round the rules, it should be fairly easy. Given how pedestrians are around here, I have to drive like this already, as people just cross the road without looking.

The problem there being that you stop your car and some ***t on two wheels comes up the outside and blindsides everyone and hits the person who's crossing the road!

New road laws from this weekend on 20:42 - Jan 24 with 2015 views | MerseyBlue | Appreciate that changes need to be made but think the information has been disseminated quite poorly. There will be a lot of drivers who have missed this and I can see that creating confusions at pedestrian crossings. You would have to be a brave pedestrian to chance your arm that the driver coming towards you is fully aware of the updates on some of my local crossings. Also worry about the schools at kicking out time. Just as I did when I was a kid, they all rush out in one huge blob towards major roads and I can see the lack of awareness from motorists causing additional incidents. Intentions of this seem to be in order, but the execution is a bit iffy for me. Definitely worth sharing this with anyone you know so good job OP.

But dangerous too- because people who know the local road and can pass safely are ignorantly obstructed and then get impatient. If a car drove down the middle to stop you passing, they would rightly be criticised and probably done by the police if spotted.

Accidentally downthumbed The government in poor communications shocker, I note quite a lot of these changes are things they've been teaching for a few years now so it will he less of a surprise to new drivers What's the suggestion with opening doors, that seems a weird one?
