Are Derby at it again? 17:15 - Jul 5 with 3084 views | STYG | I know they'll have decent support and had about 5 players last week, but they are signing the likes of McGoldrick and Hourihane and others who aren't going to be cheap. They've also got to break even for two years haven't they or face sanctions. Maybe they will add a few big names and then fill the squad with some cheaper signings but it currently smacks of them going for it on the basis that if they can bounce back any sanctions would take place next year when they may be on a better financial footing and swallow it. I for one am stunned they got so much time and have had no penalties thus far given how Bury and Bolton were shafted but, at this point in time, it looks as if they surely cannot be heading for a sustainable League One side unless, as I say, the rest of the squad are promising League Two signings on peanuts.
Are Derby at it again? on 17:17 - Jul 5 with 2997 views | FrimleyBlue | I'm shocked that this sort of situation doesn't lead to a transfer embargo of some form. I.e wage caps. Or limited to use of u21s or something.

Are Derby at it again? on 17:27 - Jul 5 with 2936 views | clive_baker | Looks like they're starting to build a good side if they get McGoldrick and Hourihane over the line. They've got a few very tidy players there already if they can keep hold of them too. Buchanan, Max Bird, Knight, Sibley. If they can add some experience which they look to be doing then they might be on to something. Annoying.

They are effectively on a cap aren't they? Can only spend what they're receiving? which is entirely logical in any case.

Are Derby at it again? on 17:52 - Jul 5 with 2654 views | SheffordBlue | All their signings have to be signed off by the EFL and be in line with their break even plan. I think you're right that they're looking at building a spine of ecxperienced frees and then topping it up elsewhere either with League 2 signings or maybe some players released from top end Championship/Prem academies. I think they could end up with a good first 11 but will be light on numbers whatever happens and will be at risk of injuries.

Surprises me McGoldrick seems to be going there, heard Boro were keen, which made sense given Wilder is their manager.
Are Derby at it again? on 17:58 - Jul 5 with 2598 views | jayessess | I think they're signing roughly who you'd expect them to really. In a good year Derby's average attendances are 25,000 to 30,000 and post-takeover you'd expect to get a little wave of enthusiasm to boost season ticket sales. Even break even would leave them with a bigger wage budget than everyone except us and Wednesday probably. Their current bill consists of 5 young lads who signed contracts upon breaking through to the first team, plus 2 senior pros they signed later (plus the 3 senior pros they added the other day). They will have a lot of financial head room at the moment and very little experience in the dressing room. They aren't allowed to pay significant fees and lots of good out of contract players will already be fixed up for next year. So where else are they supposed to direct that money? There isn't really a sustainable direction to spend it in, other than recruiting free agents who their main rivals didn't want. [Post edited 5 Jul 2022 18:02]

Are Derby at it again? on 18:02 - Jul 5 with 2549 views | ElderGrizzly | The EFL have to sign off every player and they aren't allowed to lose money for 2 years. So, they certainly can't do what they did before.

It would be even funnier if we beat them in the PO final.

Buchanan went to Werder Bremen earlier in the week I believe for £1m.

Fair enough, also closer to where he's based, so might not want all the travelling.

I very much doubt Knight will be at Derby at the start of the season.

Long old drive to Boro from the East Midlands innit. C'mon Phil!

Mac G is based in the area so makes sense for him. He was not prepared to uproot his family to Suffolk as an ITFC player. So guess he's putting family first.

I know he’s been linked with a move away and understandably so. Very much hope that happens tbh.

Actually, he did. They moved here for the first year or so but didn't settle and moved back.
Are Derby at it again? on 09:56 - Jul 6 with 1277 views | ThatMuhrenCross | I have a feeling they'll do very well. They have some decent academy players, they'll sign some cheap but solid League One pros, and they're already adding a smattering of very high quality experienced players. Combine that with the kind of siege mentality they'll form from this situation, I can really see them having a decent crack at it.

Equally they're three and half weeks from starting the season and have 11 first team players on their books, three of whom have fewer than 25 games in first team football to their name. Also not impossible they have to sell some of those. Very challenging (but not impossible) to get a team working well as a unit from that base, as we saw last season.

Sadly yes. Which seems incredibly given the 5,000 rules they seem to have broken. Can only hope they are using up 75% of their budget on 50% of their starting eleven and the rest of the squad are average League One out of contract pickups that mean they massively rely on Barkhuizen, Hourihane and McGoldrick who are great players for the league above but may find the usual difficulties down here. Hopefully they have a paper thin squad that comes apart when the games pile up. McGoldrick can't surely be a 90 mins twice a week player and as we know it takes a lot of different things to thrive in this league. Makes me wonder if they'll have old legs with a bit of quality and young ones without much (aside from the odd kid they've held on to). I could honestly seeing Derby finishing top or 17th.

McGoldrick in particular is a player of grace, skill and style, but he wasnt very robust when he played for us. That could be a problem in this division.

We've seen how players we have had, whether it is Judge, Huws, Dozzell, Fraser that have that ability to get on the ball, make time, spot a pass just don't get that time and space in League One and look like they'd be much better suited to the division above. So will be interesting to see as McGoldrick is near immobile now but still a lovely player to watch.
