More than likely, but it won't win him the next GE. Staying in power is far more important to the Tory party than anything else.

Had this come out during the MP selection stage then you'd be right. J2 is right tough. This will go down well with the membership who now get the final vote.

I expect the defence will be that he balanced the sheet rather than one area being looked after more than the other. Which in one way makes sense. I've heard many say Conservative for the workers. Labour for the non workers.

Not getting involved in what is what as that politics. But I think I can forsee the defence.

Far from it, taking from the poorest in society to give to the wealthiest as always been the basic steategy of the tories. The only difference is he as said it out loud in public

And they will hopefully implode now as a party, in the new era of (climate change, resource and territorial conflict)-driven poverty because they won't be able to bribe enough middle grounders to keep them in power, or anywhere near it. That's as long as we can keep a semblance of democracy intact for long enough to see them off.

Hopefully some form of backlash towards responsible socialism/environmentalism will follow, and make things a bit more manageable as we move into a new and unknown era. The alternative is very dark indeed. For everyone.

Here’s the defence:

A spokesperson for Mr Sunak said: "Levelling up isn't just about city centres, it's also about towns and rural areas all over the country that need help too."
"Travelling around the country, he's seen non-metropolitan areas that need better bus services, faster broadband in towns, or high quality schools. That's what he'll deliver as prime minister."
And Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen - a Sunak supporter - told BBC Radio 4's World at One programme the clip had been taken out of context, adding: "What he was getting across was why is it that poor urban areas receive significantly higher funding than poor rural or town areas."
He said places - such as Devon, Teesside and parts of Tunbridge Wells - needed fairer funding.

Knowingly takes away funding from deprived urban areas... and some people still believe in trickle-down economics and that poverty is people's own doing. Clear evidence that poorer people's situations are a result of informed systematic choices.

Worth pointing out that Tunbridge Wells has one of the largest wealth gaps between rich and poor in the country.

I don't think he is stating he is taking funding away from deprived urban areas but rather adjusted the mechanism to ensure it was a fairer spread. God knows, even in Ipswich a vast percentage of funding goes into some of the poorer areas and is repeated almost annually following vandalism etc

That's true and gives a good cover story for Sunak to do a bit of dog whistling. I didn't mean it like that, wink wink. But do the Tory members really care about the poorest? Doesn't seem like it so far in the campaign's.

Talking of Ipswich, that gobby little **** of an MP they've got has, by his low standards, been very quiet lately.

Quite.

Critics of the initiative claimed from the start it would be used to keep a certain demographic of voters onside.

It's just the latest in confirmations of what was already suspected.

We need them to implode for all or sakes, bar their families, friends and very wealthy Tory donors who’ve been receiving kickbacks of course. The rest of us and all of nature really need them to implode and bog off for a very long time.

Which of course, the EU used to provide as part of its non-political redistribution of funding. What we have now (as predicted) is Tory politicians giving to the areas that support them whilst the rest go hang.
I’m not a Labour supporter but Angela Rayner was correct when she called them ‘scum’.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
